Job Description
Populus Seattle is a distinguished boutique hotel located in the heart of Seattle’s historic Pioneer Square, one of the country's most significant adaptive reuse developments. Housed in a robust brick and heavy timber building originally constructed in 1907, the hotel is a seamless blend of rich historical narratives of the continental railways and Seattle’s vibrant seaport heritage. The hotel features 120 uniquely designed rooms, including Pioneer Square’s first rooftop bar and a signature restaurant. Inspired by the Pacific Northwest rainforest, Populus incorporates biophilic design, seasonal cuisine, and mindful hospitality, offering guests an exceptional and authentic experience that honors both place and community.
Operated by Aparium Hotel Group, Populus Seattle stands as a testament to the values of People, Place, and Character. The group emphasizes creating environments where individuals are valued and celebrated, instilling a strong sense of pride among associates for who they are, where they live, and those they serve. Aparium’s overarching mission is to be a tribute to the neighborhoods and communities its hotels operate in, embodying the principle of 'Hotels Done Differently.' This is reflected in every facet of Populus’ operations, setting the stage for translocal hospitality grounded in vibrant community connection and environmental stewardship.
The General Manager role at Populus Seattle is pivotal in leading the hotel’s operational strategy in alignment with Aparium’s pillars of intuitive service, collaborative culture, and translocal hospitality, all while upholding the values inherent to the Populus brand. This full-time exempt position reports directly to the Regional Director of Operations and carries a competitive salary range of $200,000 to $240,000 annually. The role demands a visionary leader who is deeply connected to their community, understands the essence of sustainable hospitality, and demonstrates a hands-on approach to leading by example.
This position entails accountability for all facets of the hotel’s performance, including guest experience, associate engagement, financial outcomes, and revenue generation. The General Manager acts as both a community pillar and a corporate leader, fostering relationships with local merchants, artisans, and city stakeholders to enhance the hotel’s standing within its neighborhood. The position requires proactive participation in neighborhood initiatives, local boards, and community events, reflecting the hotel’s philosophy of translocal hospitality.
The successful candidate will be energized by discovery, deeply involved in local culture, and gifted at creating meaningful relationships. Exceptional communication skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to navigate diverse personalities and challenges with finesse are essential traits. The General Manager’s leadership extends to attracting, hiring, and developing talent, coaching executive teams, and reinforcing Aparium’s culture of service excellence and innovation. Responsibilities also include managing financial performance, interpreting profit and loss statements to make strategic decisions, and fostering a vibrant food and beverage scene that celebrates local products and culinary creativity.
Ultimately, the General Manager at Populus Seattle is expected to act with integrity, discretion, and a strategic mindset to ensure both the success of the hotel and a positive work culture empowered by employee engagement and guest satisfaction. This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking hospitality group that celebrates diversity, community, and environmental responsibility while delivering unparalleled service and experiences.
