We are currently seeking an experienced General Manager 5-Food to oversee the day-to-day operations of a prestigious corporate dining account located at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. This role demands a seasoned professional with extensive multi-unit management experience, particularly within a highly secured and high-profile environment. The General Manager will have comprehensive oversight of all unit operations, encompassing management of both managers and front-line unionized staff. Operating predominantly Monday through Friday, all year round, this position requires an individual who can bring creativity, financial expertise, and leadership prowess to maintain and elevate client satisfaction and operational excellence.

The General Manager is responsible for ensuring that the dining operations deliver high-quality food products while adhering to rigorous safety and compliance standards. They will be tasked with achieving financial targets, overseeing cash handling and point-of-sale systems, and fostering strong client and customer relationships. Additionally, the role involves mentoring, coaching, and developing hourly staff to build an engaged and productive workforce. Given the sensitive nature of the Pentagon location, the applicant must be a U.S. citizen, demonstrating integrity and a thorough understanding of the unique security environment.

Job Requirements

  • applicant must be a U.S. citizen
  • experience in all aspects of restaurant or cafeteria operations including customer service, cash handling, HR responsibilities, financial reporting, marketing and promotions
  • detailed experience and knowledge of the culinary process including inventory control, ordering, recipe compliance HACCP and ensuring food quality
  • high level of financial acumen with understanding of food cost, labor controls, and profit and loss knowledge
  • ability to manage standards and systems in a cafe or retail operation
  • ability to hold employees accountable and create an engaged productive workforce
  • previous retail operations experience
  • bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • minimum 5 years of management experience
  • minimum 5 years of functional experience

  • high level of financial acumen with expertise in food cost, labor controls, middle of the page expenses, and profit and loss management
  • ability to manage standards and systems in cafe or retail operations
  • previous retail operations experience and passion for quality food service

Job Duties

  • have oversight of daily food operations and deliver a high-quality product
  • achieve company and client financial targets and goals to include oversight of cash-handling and the POS system
  • develop and maintain client and customer relationships
  • motivate, coach, mentor and develop front-line (hourly) staff
  • ensure Sodexo standards are met to include compliance with company food and physical safety programs
