Job Description

Bruegger's Bagels is a well-established bakery and cafe brand known for its commitment to serving authentic New York-style bagels paired with genuine made-in-Vermont cream cheese. For over 35 years, Bruegger's has delighted customers with high-quality kettle-cooked bagels and a welcoming atmosphere. The company emphasizes not only quality products but also a strong commitment to work-life balance for its employees. With stores closing early at 2pm, team members can enjoy their evenings free for family time, personal pursuits, or special events. This balance is a unique and valued aspect of working at Bruegger's, promoting a positive and supportive work environment.

The position available is for a General Manager who will take on a pivotal leadership role within the store operations. The General Manager is entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing all facets of the store, embodying a "treat it like you own it" approach to management. This role requires a dedicated professional capable of managing daily store activities, ensuring operational excellence, and fostering a motivated and cohesive team.

On any given day, the General Manager's schedule begins early, typically as early as 4 am, to oversee the first bake and store opening. The busy hours during breakfast and lunch involve hands-on leadership, including floating across various positions to maintain smooth operation and quality customer service. The General Manager ensures that the store remains audit-ready, catering and mobile orders are accurately fulfilled, and customers receive an exceptional experience. After the store closes at 2 pm, the manager undertakes closing duties and preparation for the next day, typically spending 30-45 minutes on these tasks. Administrative responsibilities such as scheduling, ordering, inventory, as well as depositing daily earnings at the bank, complete the manager's day.

Successful candidates bring one to three years of experience in a general management or assistant general management role within a restaurant or food service setting. Effective General Managers at Bruegger's are hands-on operators who balance operational tasks with team inspiration and motivation. Financial acumen is critical, as demonstrated by familiarity with profit and loss analysis and proven strategies to meet food and labor cost goals. Additionally, the role places a strong emphasis on recruitment and development of quality team members to build a strong internal talent pipeline.

Bruegger's General Managers are supported with comprehensive training programs lasting five weeks to prepare them thoroughly for their responsibilities. The company fosters career growth, with many managers advancing to district-level leadership roles. This opportunity offers a rewarding career path for those passionate about food service management and committed to nurturing vibrant teams and delivering exceptional customer experiences.

The General Manager position is a full-time role offering competitive pay in the range of $60,000 to $62,000 annually, complemented by attainable quarterly bonuses. Benefits include medical, dental, vision coverage, health savings accounts, disability and life insurance, 401K with company match, and paid time off. The work schedule is designed to avoid night and evening shifts, with operating hours from 6 am to 2 pm. Additional perks include pet insurance, tuition reimbursement, adoption assistance, discounts on various products and services, and an employee assistance program for employees and their families. Bruegger's also prioritizes equal employment opportunity, ensuring fair treatment free from discrimination based on race, gender, age, or other protected categories.

Candidates must be at least 18 years old. The physical demands of the position include sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and moving intermittently throughout the workday, with accommodations provided where appropriate. The duties of the role may evolve over time to meet business needs, reflecting the company’s flexible approach to operational excellence and employee development.
