The role of the General Manager at Highgate Hotels is a critical leadership position within the Select Service Division, demanding a strong focus on hotel profitability through strategic revenue generation, meticulous cost control, and unwavering guest satisfaction. This role entails developing and managing a dynamic team while upholding the hotel’s integrity and operational excellence. The General Manager is responsible for conducting daily inspections across operating departments, facilitating weekly staff meetings and training sessions, and ensuring adherence to financial targets by closely monitoring budgets and productivity levels. Collaborative efforts with the Director of Sales are essential, particularly in driving sales initiatives, managing key accounts, and actively engaging with clients. This position requires a hands-on approach to maintaining high standards in guest service and facility upkeep, as well as overseeing employee development through competency and corporate training programs. Additional responsibilities include managing financial reporting, budget processes, hiring and performance appraisals, employee counseling, disciplinary actions, and fostering a positive team-oriented environment. The General Manager plays a pivotal role in maintaining compliance with Highgate’s policies and standards, promoting a culture of excellence and accountability. This position is full-time and based at the Highgate property located at 1910 Taylor Road, Roseville, CA 95661. The compensation is structured on a yearly basis, reflective of the extensive responsibilities and expertise required to drive the ongoing success of the hotel within the competitive hospitality industry.

Job Requirements

  • Education level of at least associate degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 4 to 6 years progressive hotel management experience
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication abilities both verbal and written
  • Proficient in multitasking and managing multiple priorities
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
  • Commitment to maintaining a warm and service-oriented attitude
  • Capability to comply with company policies and safety standards

Job Qualifications

  • At least 6 years progressive experience in a hotel or related field
  • or a 4-year college degree with 4 to 5 years related experience
  • or a 2-year college degree with 5 to 6 years related experience
  • Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with all levels of employees and guests
  • Ability to listen, understand, and clarify concerns effectively
  • Multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines
  • Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings
  • Participate in M.O.D. coverage as required
  • Maintain regular attendance and comply with scheduling needs
  • Uphold high personal appearance and grooming standards
  • Comply with Highgate standards and safety regulations
  • Effectively handle and solve problems
  • Ability to understand and analyze complex information and data
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

Job Duties

  • Tour the operating departments daily, making adjustments as needed via department heads
  • Conduct weekly staff meetings, including training sessions presented by managers and self
  • Meet all financial review dates and corporate directed programs in a timely fashion
  • Hold monthly financial reviews with all department managers and supervisors
  • Ensure department heads maintain budgeted productivity and standard accounting procedures
  • Develop managers for future advancement through competency and corporate sponsored training
  • Collaborate with Director of Sales for daily HHBR meetings focusing on prospecting and sales results
  • Participate in hotel sales efforts including client meetings and hosting events
  • Ensure compliance with Highgate Hotel policies and procedures
  • Oversee budget process as required
  • Conduct regular room inspections with housekeeping and engineering departments
  • Manage daily invoice processing and ensure timely financial reporting to Corporate Office
  • Maintain cleanliness and maintenance of property through inspections and preventive programs
  • Ensure employees are attentive, courteous, and efficient in guest and internal interactions
  • Forecast monthly financial position with revenue and expense analysis
  • Lead interviews and hiring processes for management positions
  • Conduct performance appraisals and enforce disciplinary measures per company standards
  • Motivate and develop management personnel
  • Attend and contribute to scheduled meetings and corporate training modules
  • Engage with guests during peak times and participate in M.O.D. coverage as scheduled
  • Ensure secure handling of hotel safe and conduct monthly audits
  • Administer monthly credit meetings and oversee collection policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Vice President or Regional Director of Operations
  • Uphold fair and equitable treatment of all employees
