Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience in school food service operations preferred but not required
  • Ability to attend food safety training classes such as Short Food Course I offered by Department of Education
  • Completion of Basic School Food Service or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and accomplish assigned work
  • Ability to work independently and/or as a team member
  • Ability to recognize problems and take appropriate action
  • Ability to take direction and respond courteously
  • Ability to learn operation of food service equipment
  • Awareness of district policies and safety practices
  • Must be capable of standing constantly
  • Must frequently work with interruptions
  • Must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be capable of working in both hot and cold environments
  • Must wear approved slip-resistant shoes and uniforms as directed
  • Must use appropriate gloves and protective equipment
  • Must be capable of operating kitchen cleaning equipment
  • Must maintain good personal hygiene and appearance

Job Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of nutrition and food safety
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

  • Knowledge of district policies and safety requirements

Job Duties

  • Organizes site work including setting up and tearing down serving lines and bars under manager direction
  • Understands and practices good nutrition in food preparation and service
  • Assists with serving food
  • Works in dishroom area washing trays, silverware, and returning to proper storage
  • Washes pots and pans in three-compartment sink
  • Assists in control of food and supply costs through proper handling and storage techniques
  • Communicates and works well with fellow employees
  • Maintains good public relations with students, parents, faculty, and community
  • Assists with catering if necessary
  • Demonstrates regular and reliable attendance
