Job Description

Ivy Drive Elementary School is part of the Bristol Board of Education and is committed to providing a supportive learning environment for students by ensuring quality food service within its cafeteria program. Serving a diverse student population, Ivy Drive Elementary emphasizes nutrition and efficient service in its meal offerings, contributing positively to the overall educational experience. The school cafeteria operates under the leadership of the Director and Assistant Director of Food Services, assuring that all food preparation and service adhere to high standards of safety, sanitation, and quality. Ivy Drive Elementary School offers a cafeteria position aimed at supporting these goals through diligent food service work.

The role of General Food Service Worker at Ivy Drive Elementary School is an essential position focusing on the preparation and service of quality food to students swiftly and courteously. This position demands hands-on involvement in daily food preparation tasks including making salads, sandwiches, and vegetables alongside other menu items. The worker assists in setting up and breaking down the serving counters, ensuring that the cafeteria operations run smoothly and efficiently during service hours. In addition to food-related tasks, sanitation responsibilities are a crucial element of this role; maintaining clean work areas and kitchen spaces safeguards the health of students and staff alike.

This job requires a candidate who has experience in large-scale cooking and food preparation or serving in environments similar to school cafeterias. The ability to follow simple instructions and handle basic math operations related to measurements and currency is essential. While a high school diploma or GED is preferred, the key attribute is competency in managing the various physical and procedural tasks involved in food service. The position involves working hours from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm for approximately 5.75 hours per day during the academic year 2026-2027. Compensation is per negotiated contract, reflecting the organized, union-based structure of the employment.

The role reports directly to the Director or Assistant Director of Food Services and does not include supervisory duties, making it suitable for those seeking to contribute operationally rather than in managerial capacities. Ivy Drive Elementary encourages applicants from individuals who value teamwork, food safety, and student well-being. Employment applications for current employees of the Bristol Board of Education are processed internally, whereas external candidates are invited to complete applications online. This position remains open until filled, emphasizing the priority to find a reliable and dedicated worker to join the cafeteria team as soon as possible.
