Currently, Creative Dining Services is seeking student General Food Service Workers at Indiana University - South Bend to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for students who want to gain hands-on experience in the food service industry while balancing school commitments. As a General Food Service Worker, the role involves a wide range of responsibilities starting from setting up food service stations, assisting in meal preparation, serving food and beverages, maintaining cleanliness, and operating cooking or bakery equipment under supervision. The work environment provides exposure to various food service settings, allowing for skill development in areas such as customer service, food safety, and kitchen operations.

General Food Service Workers will perform daily duties such as setting up and preparing kitchen or salad areas, checking food temperatures, replenishing food items, silverware, and condiments, and ensuring sanitary conditions by cleaning work areas and washing serviceware. The role may also include cashiering duties and participation in trash collection in designated containers as part of maintaining a clean work environment. Given the nature of this role, good communication skills and the ability to understand the primary languages used by customers at the work location are essential.

This position is vital for maintaining the smooth operation of food services on campus and contributes directly to the positive dining experience of students and staff. Job Duties

  • Sets up food service, kitchen, or salad area facilities, equipment and utensils, under detailed instruction, in accordance with specific area needs
  • checks food temperatures and/or prepares areas for daily operations
  • may operate cooking or bakery equipment as assigned
  • prepares or assists in the preparation of hot and cold meals and beverages
  • serves food items to customers from counters and/or steam tables, in accordance with specific instructions, ensuring that appropriate portions are served
  • replenishes foods, silverware, glassware, dishes, and trays at serving stations
  • may order and replenish condiments
  • cleans and maintains work areas, including floors, facilities, dishes, utensils, and equipment
  • collects and places garbage and trash in designated containers as appropriate to the area of operation
  • washes pots, pans, and other serviceware ensuring sanitary handling
  • organizes and replaces serviceware to appropriate location
  • performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
