The position of General Assistant - Events Set-up Specialist is a non-regular fixed term role within the Parking and Transportation Services Department at Coppin State University. This role reports directly to the Assistant Director of Business and Auxiliary Services and offers an hourly wage of $18.22. The primary responsibility of this role is to serve as a crucial member of the events set-up team tasked with the arrangement and dismantling of campus spaces for a variety of internal and external events. The General Assistant will be involved in physically moving, installing, and arranging equipment such as tables, chairs, tents, podiums, stage sections, and beverage coolers essential for the successful execution of university events. Additionally, the specialist will be responsible for installing and dismantling piping and draping used in special functions, ensuring that event setups meet designated standards.
Beyond event-related duties, the role includes assisting with various projects such as inventory management, equipment repair, and preventive maintenance to guarantee that all event resources remain in optimal condition. The position requires operation of vehicles like box or pick-up trucks and golf carts to facilitate the transport of equipment and other items across campus. Attention to detail is critical as the assistant will handle updating reports, submitting necessary paperwork on time, and processing work orders for any equipment in disrepair.
Candidates must be able to communicate professionally and courteously, understanding and following both oral and written instructions effectively. The role demands flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including weekends, to meet the needs of university events. Selected candidates may also be subjected to medical evaluations to determine physical capability to perform essential job functions. Applicants may need a valid Maryland Non-commercial Class C or Commercial Class B driver's license or an equivalent, with some subject to drug and alcohol testing as required by law.
Contractual employees filling this position are eligible for limited benefits as outlined by Coppin State University. The university is an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer, committed to providing fair employment opportunities without discrimination based on race, creed, color, ethnicity, national origin, ancestry, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, marital status, pregnancy, age, disability status, or veteran status. This role presents an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking an active and engaging position contributing to the smooth operation of university events, while working within a diverse and supportive academic community.
