Job Description
The University of North Texas (UNT) is a vibrant public research university located in Denton, Texas. It serves as one of the largest campuses in the state, hosting a dynamic community of students, faculty, staff, and visitors throughout the year. Known for its comprehensive academic and extracurricular programs, UNT also prides itself on maintaining its campus facilities to the highest standards to ensure a welcoming, clean, and safe environment conducive to learning and events. The University Centers & Events team at UNT plays a critical role in this mission by managing premier campus venues such as the Gateway Center and Coliseum, which host a variety of functions including academic events, conferences, and community gatherings. Employment at UNT offers competitive benefits, including state of Texas benefits, TRS retirement eligibility, paid time off, and significant opportunities for professional growth in a robust university setting. The custodial supervisor role offered here is a vital leadership position within the Facilities team, responsible for upholding custodial standards and operational excellence across these important campus venues.
The Custodial Supervisor (Daytime) position at the Gateway Center & Coliseum is an engaging and hands-on leadership role, ideal for individuals passionate about facilities management and team supervision. This role requires overseeing evening custodial staff to maintain cleanliness and order throughout the venue’s high-traffic areas. The supervisor will have a direct impact on the experience of students, faculty, staff, and guests by ensuring that all facilities are impeccably maintained and ready to support major campus events. The position offers a starting salary of $36,336, commensurate with experience, reflecting the university's commitment to fair and competitive compensation.
The successful candidate will supervise and train custodial staff, assign work schedules, inspect completed tasks, coordinate recycling and custodial operations, and provide necessary supplies, equipment, and training to the team. This is a supervisory role that demands strong leadership and communication skills, the ability to manage a team efficiently, and adapt to the fast-paced, event-driven environment of a large public university. Experience with campus events or large public venues is a notable advantage, equipping the supervisor with the understanding necessary to meet diverse and changing demands. The work schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with flexibility required for special event support.
Working as the Custodial Supervisor at UNT means becoming part of a forward-thinking team that values dedication, efficiency, and a collaborative spirit. Beyond the daily responsibilities of ensuring a clean and safe environment, the supervisor is a key partner in delivering exceptional event and facility experiences that reflect the university's standards of excellence. This role offers the opportunity to grow professionally within a stimulating environment, contribute to the success of an esteemed university, and take pride in creating a positive, lasting impression on all who visit the campus. UNT's commitment to equal opportunity and an inclusive work culture underscores its dedication to providing a respectful and supportive workplace for all employees.
