Job Description
The Columbus River Dragons are a professional hockey team based in Columbus, Georgia, known for their dynamic presence in the sports entertainment industry. As a vibrant and growing franchise, the organization is deeply committed to providing fans with an engaging and memorable live sports experience. The River Dragons not only excel on the ice but also place a strong emphasis on community involvement, fan engagement, and operational excellence behind the scenes. The team plays home games at the Columbus Civic Center, a highly regarded arena in the region, and offers exciting opportunities for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in the sports and entertainment fields. This opportunity is ideal for those passionate about professional hockey, event production, and live game-day operations within the fast-paced environment of sports entertainment.
The role of Game Day Operations Volunteer with the Columbus River Dragons offers an exceptional chance to immerse yourself in the operational side of professional hockey games and special events. This volunteer internship is specifically designed for individuals interested in gaining practical skills in game operations, live event production, fan experience enhancement, and sports event coordination. Volunteers work closely with the Game Operations Manager to ensure seamless execution of River Dragons home games and select special events from pre-game setup through post-game teardown.
Volunteers play an integral part in preparing the arena, managing game-day assets, and supporting fan engagement initiatives, all contributing to the creation of an exciting and memorable game-day atmosphere. The position provides extensive hands-on experience with event logistics, promotional activities, on-ice entertainment, and interdepartmental communication vital to the successful running of live, professional sports events. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about live event timelines, game presentation basics including scripting and timing, as well as operational coordination with staff, officials, and arena personnel. The role demands a reliable, energetic individual capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment, with strong organizational and communication skills. In addition to practical skills, volunteers gain invaluable networking opportunities with sports professionals, arena staff, and organizational leadership, contributing to resume building and professional growth within the sports industry.
This is an unpaid internship designed for educational and professional development, offering college credit where applicable. Candidates can expect flexible scheduling options based on academic commitments, with opportunities available for summer, semester-long, full-season, and extended internship durations. It is important to note that while this role offers extensive learning experiences and industry exposure, completion of the program does not guarantee future employment with the River Dragons organization. Volunteers are expected to maintain professional conduct and serve as positive representatives of the team and its values at all times.
