Job Description

Michigan State University is a prestigious public research university located in East Lansing, Michigan, known for its strong academic programs and vibrant campus life. One of the highlights of the university's community engagement is its dynamic athletic events, including football, basketball, and hockey games held throughout the fall season. These events draw large crowds of students, alumni, and fans, creating a lively atmosphere that requires a dedicated and efficient support staff to enhance the overall experience. Michigan State University's commitment to excellence extends beyond academics to its athletic operations, where staff members play a vital role in ensuring smooth and enjoyable game days for all attendees.

The university is currently seeking enthusiastic and reliable individuals to fill various event staff positions for the upcoming fall sports season. These positions include Concession Cashiers, Prep Cooks, Dishwashers, Premium Runners, and Warehouse Support roles. Each role is integral to the successful execution of game day services, from food preparation and sales to maintaining cleanliness and managing supplies. Working at Michigan State University sports events offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that supports the Spartan spirit and contributes to the vibrant energy in the stadium and arena.

This employment opportunity is ideal for individuals who enjoy teamwork, customer service, and working in an energetic and fast-paced environment. The positions require flexibility, physical stamina, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene, especially for roles involving food handling where Servsafe certification is required for Concession Cashiers and Prep Cooks. Employees will have the chance to develop valuable skills in food service, customer interaction, and event support, all while being part of a community-centric and spirited sports culture.

As a member of the event staff, you will be responsible for tasks such as cooking and preparing food items, operating point-of-sale systems, engaging with customers courteously, and ensuring cleanliness and sanitation of utensils and equipment. The roles demand being on your feet for the duration of the shift with activities that may involve reaching, bending, and other physical movements. Employees must be comfortable working under sometimes hectic conditions, adhering to dress codes including wearing closed-toe shoes and pants, and following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for food safety, such as maintaining neat hair and fingernails and covering facial hair if required.

Whether you choose to work in food service or support roles, this position with Michigan State University offers an enriching fall job experience within a renowned institution. The environment is both challenging and rewarding, providing many opportunities for personal growth and community involvement during some of the most exciting collegiate sports events in the region.
