Job Description
Michigan State University is a prestigious public research university located in East Lansing, Michigan. Known for its strong academic programs and vibrant campus life, MSU is also celebrated for its exciting athletic events, especially football, basketball, and hockey games. These sporting events attract thousands of fans each game day, making event operations a critical component of the university's efforts to provide a safe, enjoyable, and efficient experience for all attendees. MSU's athletic programs are renowned nationwide, and the university strives to ensure excellent service standards throughout its event venues, including food and beverage operations, concessions, and customer interaction. Working for Michigan State University athletics presents an opportunity to be part of a dynamic, energetic environment that supports one of the top collegiate athletic departments in the country.
This fall, Michigan State University is hiring a variety of event staff positions for the upcoming football, basketball, and hockey seasons. The available roles include Concession Cashiers, Prep Cooks, Dishwashers, Premium Runners, and Warehouse Support staff. These positions play an essential role in ensuring smooth food service operations during large-scale sporting events. Concession Cashiers will handle customer transactions efficiently and courteously and must hold Servsafe certification. Prep Cooks will be responsible for preparing food items in accordance with safety standards and also require Servsafe certification. Dishwashers will maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen and utensil areas. Premium Runners will ensure that orders from premium seating areas are delivered swiftly and accurately, while Warehouse Support staff will assist in the organization, stocking, and logistics of supplies and inventory.
Working in event staff or food service positions at MSU through Bluecrew means being prepared to perform duties independently or as part of a team. Employees will be expected to maintain high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and customer interaction throughout their shifts. Since these roles involve working in busy and sometimes hectic environments, candidates must be comfortable being on their feet for extended periods and performing physically demanding activities like reaching, bending, and crouching. Adherence to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) guidelines for food handlers is required, including keeping hair secured, maintaining neat fingernails, and covering facial hair if necessary. Dress code requirements emphasize safe work attire such as close-toed shoes and appropriate clothing. Furthermore, MSU and Bluecrew are committed to ensuring the health and safety of all staff, emphasizing that employees should only accept assignments they are physically able to complete without compromising their well-being.
These positions offer an excellent opportunity for students and community members interested in gaining work experience in a fast-paced event environment while supporting the Michigan State Spartans. Applicants gain valuable customer service skills, food handling expertise, and teamwork abilities in a vibrant collegiate sports setting. The roles are seasonal and flexible, aligning with MSU's athletic calendar during the fall months. Compensation and scheduling details are provided upon hire through Bluecrew, offering a transparent and supportive employment experience. Being part of the MSU event staff team means contributing to the excitement, efficiency, and high-quality service that fans and visitors expect at Spartan sporting events.
