Job Description
Michigan State University is renowned for its commitment to excellence in both academics and athletics, fostering a vibrant community where students, staff, and fans come together to celebrate Spartan spirit. The university's athletic events, particularly football, basketball, and hockey games, are major highlights of the semester, attracting thousands of enthusiastic fans and creating a dynamic atmosphere. As an integral part of these events, the food service and event staff play a crucial role in ensuring attendees have a seamless and enjoyable experience. Michigan State University seeks dedicated individuals to join their team for the upcoming Fall season to work at these high-energy sporting events. These positions are vital in maintaining efficient operations within concession areas and other food service environments at the university's sporting venues.
This Fall, the university is hiring for multiple positions including Concession Cashiers, Prep Cooks, Dishwashers, Premium Runners, and Warehouse Support staff. Each role contributes uniquely to the smooth functioning of event-day operations. Concession Cashiers are responsible for direct customer interaction, handling sales transactions professionally while managing inventory at the cash register. Prep Cooks are tasked with preparing food items efficiently while adhering to Servsafe guidelines to maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene. Dishwashers support the team by ensuring that all utensils, dishes, and cooking equipment are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized promptly to keep up with the fast pace of events. Premium Runners facilitate efficient service by transporting food and beverages to premium seating areas, ensuring guests receive timely and attentive service. Warehouse Support staff manage inventory logistics behind the scenes, organizing supplies to ensure all concession stands are well-stocked throughout the events.
Working at Michigan State University’s athletic games means being part of a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where employees must be adaptable and reliable. Event staff should expect to work both independently and collaboratively, often performing physically demanding tasks such as standing for prolonged periods, bending, reaching, and moving quickly to meet the demands of large crowds. The university emphasizes safety and appearance, requiring close-toed shoes and pants to comply with dress codes and regulations, especially for those handling food. Employees handling food must also adhere to good manufacturing practices, including proper grooming standards such as keeping hair secured, maintaining trimmed fingernails, and possibly covering facial hair.
These positions offer an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking part-time, flexible work within a collegiate sports setting. Bluecrew facilitates staffing for these roles, focusing on providing a safe, supportive work environment. Candidates should be prepared to work during game days and event schedules, embracing the energetic spirit of Michigan State University’s athletic programs. This role is ideal for those who enjoy working with the public, thrive in busy environments, and have a commitment to food safety and excellent customer service.
