The Mulvane Art Museum at Washburn University seeks to hire a part-time Gallery and Event Specialist. This role is crucial in delivering excellent customer service as the museum's front-line presence. The specialist’s responsibilities include ensuring the safety and security of both artwork and visitors, supervising student workers, and overseeing the staffing of the museum during operating hours. This role offers a base pay of $15.17 per hour with potential for a higher entry rate based on experience and is benefits-eligible despite being part-time. The Gallery and Event Specialist also undertakes various administrative duties such as payment processing, data entry, organizing documents, and responding to inquiries to facilitate smooth museum operations. This position requires a strong dedication to customer service and communication as well as proficiency in essential office software like Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word. The role demands excellent organizational and time management skills, alongside the ability to effectively manage and motivate student staff.

- One or more years of customer service retail or closely related experience
- Proven ability to provide effective customer service
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal communication organizational and time management skills
- Proficient in using Microsoft Excel Outlook and Word

Job Duties
- Open and close the museum ensuring proper safety protocols are followed
- Observe customer service protocols to ensure a welcoming and engaging experience for visitors
- Provide information and direction to visitors to the museum and campus
- Hire supervise and train student workers in proper procedures and protocols for gallery safety greeting and interacting with visitors
- Lead tours as needed answer questions and provide information about museum programs
- Collect visitor information and submit reports on attendance and programs
- Assist with program and event preparation including the Mulvane Art Fair exhibit receptions lectures films and other public events
- Assist with general administrative tasks including payment processing data entry document organization and responding to public inquiries
- Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate
