Job Description

Recreation District Number 1, also known as Pelican Park, is a respected public recreational facility located in St. Tammany Parish. Pelican Park serves as a vibrant community hub offering a wide range of sports, recreational activities, and events, dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for local residents and visitors alike. Known for its welcoming environment and extensive amenities, the park is committed to promoting community engagement, health, and well-being through its comprehensive programs and events. The park operates with a strong ethos of unity and teamwork, embracing the values of inclusiveness and cooperation to foster a safe and enjoyable space where everyone’s contributions are valued. Pelican Park is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer, proudly supporting diversity and protecting the rights of all team members including veterans, individuals with disabilities, and all genders.

The role of Events Coordinator at Pelican Park is a fundamental position responsible for ensuring the flawless planning, organization, and execution of all events held at the park. This position requires a highly organized and proactive individual to serve as the central liaison between clients, vendors, and venue staff, guaranteeing that every event detail aligns perfectly with the client’s vision and objectives. The Events Coordinator will oversee the entire event lifecycle—from initial client meetings and timeline development through to the on-site management of event setup, execution, and breakdown, followed by post-event evaluation and wrap-up. This role demands excellent communication skills and an ability to manage multiple moving parts simultaneously, ensuring every event runs smoothly and successfully.

Key responsibilities include maintaining strong client relationships by offering personalized attention and expert advice, developing detailed event timelines and logistical plans tailored to each client’s specific needs, and supervising vendor performance to ensure timely and quality service delivery. The coordinator will also act as the main point of contact for guests during events, efficiently handling any special requests or accommodations to enhance their experience. Post-event, the coordinator will collect feedback to assess success and identify opportunities for continuous improvement while ensuring all cleanup and equipment returns are completed correctly.

Candidates for this role should possess a deep understanding of event planning processes including compliance with health and safety regulations, permits, and insurance requirements related to public events. They should be adept at juggling multiple responsibilities under pressure, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills and composure when unexpected issues arise. Leadership capabilities are essential, with an ability to manage and motivate teams to deliver excellent service and seamless event execution. Experience with event promotion, social media marketing techniques, and creating engaging event atmospheres is highly valued. The position requires a commitment to professional certifications such as CPR and First Aid and compliance with physical and sensory demands associated with managing dynamic event environments. Overall, this position offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute to one of St. Tammany’s premier community recreation destinations, playing an integral role in delivering memorable experiences that bring people together and foster community spirit.
