This role involves preparing food orders for breakfast and lunch service times, as well as preparing foods for upcoming meals and events. The position requires working within a kitchen that is located in a renovated historic home, offering a unique and challenging work environment with limited space. Responsibilities include preparing a variety of menu items such as pancakes, waffles, sandwiches, bacon, sausage, tacos, and special items according to exact recipe specifications. The job also involves preparing soups, fruits, and other food items for future meals or days, ensuring that the food line is well-stocked and properly organized. Employees will be expected to handle food safely and efficiently, practicing proper labeling and rotation to maintain quality control.

Additional duties include washing utensils and kitchen tools, assisting with dishwashing and kitchen breakdown when needed, and packaging leftover food for donation to local charities. Employees will be cross-trained in other kitchen positions like baking and fill-ins, providing opportunities for skill development and versatility. The position is demanding, requiring strength and endurance to handle heavy items weighing up to 60 pounds and the ability to work under time constraints while maintaining accuracy and quality. The work environment can be hot and noisy, with necessary safety measures like wearing uniforms, hair nets, protective gloves, and non-skid shoes strictly enforced.

Job Duties

  • prepare pancakes, waffles, sandwiches, bacon, sausage, tacos, special menu items and other regular menu items to order
  • prepare soups, fruit, and items for next meal and/or next day
  • make certain food line is stocked with sliced meats, cheese, and other items
  • organize, consolidate, and rotate all food items
  • slice and weigh out specified unit portions of meats, cheeses, and other foods
  • make food items to exact recipe specifications, including calculating amounts of each ingredient, scaling recipes, and measuring precise amounts
  • accurately label all stored food items by description, date, and name initials
  • transport fruit and other food items from office area and/or refrigerated cooler to kitchen area
  • wash utensils, tools, slicer, bowls and clean area at end of day
  • assist with dishwashing and kitchen breakdown as needed
  • package and label leftover food preparations at end of shift and send to Rescue Mission
  • cross-train with other kitchen positions such as baker and fill in when needed
  • follow all food safety and health regulations and sanitation procedures
