Job Description

Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) is a global leader in the hospitality industry, owning, operating, and franchising over 7,000 hotels worldwide across more than 100 countries. With a robust portfolio of iconic brands, IHG is dedicated to creating memorable experiences for guests while fostering a culture of excellence and opportunity for its employees. Since its establishment, the company has consistently excelled in delivering superior service and innovative hospitality solutions, striving to be the preferred, admired, and successful hotel company worldwide.

The Teen Academy program at IHG Army Hotel, located within Joint Force Base San Antonio, is a summer work and internship initiative that has been providing valuable experience to teenagers since 2016. Due to its success, the program expanded portfolio-wide in 2017 to include various IHG Army Hotels. This unique internship program runs for 8 to 10 weeks during the summer months, aligned with school district schedules and applicable local laws. The Teen Academy is designed to give teenagers aged 14 to 17 an immersive experience in the hospitality industry, offering hands-on training in various hotel roles such as Room Attendant, Houseperson, Laundry Attendant, and Breakfast Attendant.

The primary objective of the Teen Academy is to cultivate essential life skills and a strong work ethic among its participants. The program not only provides teens with real work experience but also instills core values such as commitment, responsibility, and respect, aligned with IHG's Winning Ways and dedication to delivering True hospitality. Participants learn to appreciate the hard work involved in running a hotel, develop family values through understanding and respect for working relatives, and experience the importance of a strong and healthy lifestyle.

Participants work a standard schedule of 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, without overtime, adhering strictly to child labor laws, which limit work hours to no more than 40 hours per week and no more than eight hours per day. Transportation access to the military post is required, and teens must possess any legally mandated work permits to participate. The position offers an hourly pay rate of $18.40, which reflects IHG's commitment to fairly compensating its young workforce for their contribution.

By joining the Teen Academy, young individuals gain valuable skills that can pave the way for future careers in hospitality or other customer-focused industries. The program serves as both a professional stepping stone and a personal growth opportunity, allowing teens to embark on a rewarding summer experience that builds character and empowers them to succeed. IHG values every application, encouraging teens who are passionate, eager to learn, and ready to face new challenges to apply, even if they do not meet every single qualification listed. The Teen Academy is more than just a summer job - it is an investment in the future generation of hospitality professionals and community members.
