Job Description
Dog Tag Bakery is a distinctive and socially impactful establishment located in Washington DC's vibrant Georgetown neighborhood. It operates as a part of Dog Tag Inc., an organization committed to serving veterans, military spouses, and caregivers through skill development and community support. Dog Tag Bakery is not just a place to enjoy exceptional baked goods but also a hub for empowering individuals who have served our country or supported those who have. The bakery offers an innovative educational program designed specifically for veterans and their families, helping them build skills that enable them to launch their own businesses or transition successfully into civilian careers.
At Dog Tag Bakery, the passion for baking meets a deeper mission of social responsibility. Every loaf, cookie, and pastry baked in their kitchen carries a story of resilience and empowerment. Their commitment extends beyond food — it is a commitment to honoring the service and sacrifices of military families through meaningful employment, education, and community involvement. The bakery’s values include service, entrepreneurship, empowerment, and respect, which influence every aspect of their work culture and customer interactions.
Joining Dog Tag Bakery means more than just working in a bakery; it means joining a cause. Employees have the opportunity to be part of a broader mission that creates lasting positive change in the lives of veterans and their families. The bakery’s work environment fosters growth, teamwork, and respect, cultivating a sense of purpose and community among employees. This is a place where culinary talent can flourish alongside social impact, making the role uniquely rewarding.
The role itself is for a full-time baker who is experienced in from-scratch baking and eager to contribute to a dynamic and purpose-driven workplace. This position requires not only strong baking skills but also a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and safety, flexibility in multitasking during busy service hours, and a proactive approach to daily challenges. Bakers at Dog Tag are integral to delivering a superior product that reflects the bakery’s dedication to excellence and mission. This is a career opportunity for those who want to grow professionally while making a meaningful difference in their community.
Employees enjoy a full-time work schedule of 30 to 40 hours weekly, primarily between Friday and Tuesday, with early start times as early as 5:30 am to accommodate bakery and catering demands. Compensation is competitive, with starting wages ranging from $18 to $20 per hour depending on experience, plus tips. The company also offers a comprehensive benefits package including paid vacation, holidays, a year-end closing period, and medical, dental, and vision insurance. Additional voluntary benefits such as flexible spending accounts and retirement plans are also available, supporting employee wellness and financial security.
Dog Tag Bakery emphasizes training and career development, making it an ideal workplace for bakers who want to hone their craft while contributing to a socially meaningful mission. This position invites candidates with at least one year of baking experience or culinary school training who are passionate about quality baking and committed to supporting a community-focused organization.
