Job Description

UPMC Presbyterian Hospital is a renowned healthcare institution dedicated to providing exceptional medical services and compassionate patient care. Located within the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center system, UPMC Presbyterian Hospital is recognized for its commitment to clinical excellence, innovative treatment approaches, and a patient-centered environment that supports both the well-being and dignity of patients and their families. The hospital consistently strives to create a supportive and welcoming atmosphere for patients from all walks of life, offering a broad spectrum of specialized medical services and state-of-the-art technology to ensure the best health outcomes. UPMC Presbyterian Hospital is part of a leading healthcare network that not only focuses on treatment but also on the holistic experience of those it serves, making it an exemplary place to work and grow professionally.

The Full-Time Patient & Family Concierge (PFC) role at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital is a rewarding position based within the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit on floor 7F. This full-time opportunity involves working three 12-hour shifts weekly, totaling 36 hours, with a schedule that includes rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays to provide consistent support to patients and families. The starting pay for this role is $19.00 per hour, with the final compensation being influenced by experience and education levels.

As a Patient & Family Concierge, you will play a vital role in enhancing the hospital experience for patients and their families by delivering compassionate support and facilitating smooth day-to-day operations. Your responsibilities cover a broad range of non-clinical tasks that promote comfort, efficiency, and ease throughout a patient's visit. From the moment patients and visitors arrive, your role will be to greet and escort them, ensuring they feel welcomed and supported. You will assist with meal delivery, transporting patients as needed, and managing supplies to keep the unit well-stocked and organized. Administrative duties include answering phones and responding promptly to call lights to attend to patients’ and families’ non-medical requests.

This role demands an individual who exhibits enthusiasm, compassion, and a genuine desire to support the healthcare environment by enhancing overall patient and family satisfaction. Though no clinical tasks such as bathing, mobility assistance, or medication administration are involved, the PFC must maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment and effectively communicate with both patients and clinical staff. Previous experience in healthcare or customer service is advantageous but not required, as the most essential qualities are a strong work ethic and commitment to providing an exceptional patient experience. Candidates must have either a high school diploma, active enrollment in a high school/GED program, or one year of prior work experience in lieu of a diploma/GED. Additionally, the position requires specific clearances such as Act 34 to comply with regulatory standards.

This role is not only an excellent entry point for those beginning a career in healthcare, but it also offers ample opportunity for personal and professional growth within the UPMC system. If you are motivated by helping others and eager to contribute meaningfully to a healthcare team, the Patient & Family Concierge position at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital offers a unique and impactful way to make a positive difference.
