Job Description
UPMC Presbyterian 3E is part of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), a renowned health care provider known for delivering world-class medical services and compassionate patient care. UPMC Presbyterian 3E specializes in medical cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, and vascular surgery. The unit accommodates 18 beds dedicated to patients with various medical heart conditions, including those recovering from heart surgery. Patients here may have undergone procedures such as stent placements or electrophysiology treatments and often require close monitoring with equipment like chest tubes, temporary pacemakers, and cardiac medication administered intravenously.
The Patient & Family Concierge role within UPMC Presbyterian 3E is a full-time position designed to enhance the experience of patients, families, and visitors throughout their hospital stay. Working rotating shifts from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., including holidays and weekends, the Concierge acts as a compassionate and informative resource, ensuring that the hospital environment feels welcoming and supportive. This role requires a versatile individual who can respond to the dynamic needs of the hospital by assisting with a variety of tasks that contribute to patient satisfaction and quality care.
As a Patient & Family Concierge, you will be the face of the hospital for patients and their families, greeting them with warmth and professionalism. You will provide essential guidance on hospital navigation, escort visitors, provide answers to general questions, and maintain a positive atmosphere from admission to discharge. The Concierge assists with environmental upkeep by helping to keep patient rooms and public spaces clean and well-stocked, performing basic room resets such as bed making and linen changes, and promptly reporting any maintenance or safety issues.
Additionally, you will support dietary services by delivering and setting up patient meal trays, ensuring adherence to food safety standards, and providing additional nourishment as necessary. Patient transport tasks include safely escorting patients, equipment, and lab specimens throughout the hospital, cleaning and inspecting transport equipment, and documenting transport activities accurately.
The role also extends to telehealth support by setting up telehealth carts for patient appointments and ensuring equipment is clean and operational. Managing supplies and equipment is another key aspect, involving stocking patient rooms, supply areas, and personal protective equipment (PPE), monitoring inventory levels and expiration dates, and delivering needed supplies across the unit. General unit support duties include answering phones, assisting with call lights, interacting with patients to assess basic needs and support mobility, and strictly following infection control and service standards established by UPMC.
This position is ideal for individuals who are driven by a desire to provide exceptional service and compassionate care in a healthcare setting. While a background in healthcare or customer service is beneficial, it is not required. The ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately is essential. Working as part of the Life Changers team at UPMC Presbyterian 3E offers a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to patient experiences, ensuring that each visitor and patient encounter is both positive and memorable. UPMC is committed to being an equal opportunity employer and values diversity, including disability and veteran status.
