Job Description
UROKO is a fast-casual Temaki sushi restaurant located in the Springdale General complex. Established in 2019 by three friends—Chef Take and Kayo, who also own Kom and Sa-Ten, and Chef Masa, an alumnus of Uchi—UROKO offers a unique dining experience focusing on simple Temaki sushi made with fresh and premium ingredients. The restaurant operates in a fast-casual setting that welcomes both casual diners and sushi enthusiasts. UROKO is known not only for its high-quality sushi but also for offering a variety of services including catering, sushi classes, special dinner events, and Omakase experiences. This makes UROKO a versatile dining destination within a vibrant community. The team at UROKO is small and close-knit, currently consisting of only five employees, creating an intimate and collaborative work environment that caters to individuals who thrive in smaller teams or even independently.
The role available is for an hourly head sushi chef who will be responsible for leading the sushi shop and line operations. This position requires close collaboration with the owner chefs, Masa and Take, across all levels of the operation. The head sushi chef will be instrumental in managing, executing, and ensuring that customers enjoy a pleasant dining experience. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and possesses a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail. Effective communication skills, especially in customer service, are critical, as is the ability to maintain organization and cleanliness in a fast-moving kitchen. Additionally, the head sushi chef will be expected to bring creativity to the role by planning specials and contributing to the overall menu development. Food safety knowledge is essential, and possessing a Food Manager certificate is a mandatory requirement. Candidates must have at least one year of experience working as a sushi chef.
UROKO offers a competitive hourly wage starting at $18 per hour plus tips, with a training period wage of $16 per hour. The role can be either part-time, ranging from 15 to 20 hours per week, or full-time, averaging 30 to 40 hours per week. Benefits include a health insurance program via ICHRA covering health, vision, and dental, employee discounts at group restaurants, and opportunities for employee outings. This position is an excellent opportunity for a sushi chef looking to grow within a dynamic, small team environment while contributing to a well-established restaurant celebrated for its quality and community presence.
