Job Description
Harris Teeter is a well-established supermarket chain renowned for its commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service. Known for its friendly store environments and dedicated employees, Harris Teeter operates various departments to provide comprehensive shopping experiences. One such department is the Starbucks Department located within the supermarket, which requires focused management and supervision to maintain high standards of operation and customer satisfaction.
This particular position is a full-time role dedicated to assisting in managing and supervising up to 12 associates in the Starbucks Department. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the Department Manager with the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the department. This involves ensuring that the team operates efficiently and effectively while maintaining alignment with Harris Teeter's policies and standards.
The role demands a dynamic leader capable of handling various supervisory responsibilities, including ordering and receiving products, completing documentation, interviewing and training new hires, and planning and allocating work tasks. The assistant manager will also be responsible for appraising employee performance, motivating the team through rewards and discipline if necessary, and resolving any complaints or workplace issues to ensure a positive working environment.
To perform successfully, the candidate must demonstrate strong supervisory skills such as excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, commitment to unparalleled customer service, and the willingness to participate in community engagement programs. They should be flexible, able to manage multiple priorities, and work effectively under pressure and distractions. Patience and the ability to interact respectfully with both associates and customers are also essential.
Educationally, the minimum requirement for this role is a high school diploma or GED, although one to three years of related experience or equivalent training in a similar environment will be highly beneficial. The role entails participation in various company-mandated training sessions, including but not limited to new hire orientation, customer service excellence, safety protocols, food safety, and department management. Certification as an Alcohol Server Training (AST) certified individual is specifically required.
Physically, the role involves considerable demands such as standing, walking, using hands and arms extensively, and occasionally climbing or balancing. The assistant manager might need to lift and move objects weighing up to 60 pounds and have good vision capabilities, including color and depth perception.
The work environment includes exposure to wet or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts, with occasional exposure to airborne particles or chemicals. The noise levels are generally moderate.
This position is crucial in maintaining the high standards of the Starbucks Department within Harris Teeter, which prides itself on fostering a safe, efficient, and customer-focused environment. Eligible candidates will be part of Harris Teeter’s group benefit plans upon completion of applicable waiting periods, ensuring a comprehensive compensation package aligned with their role and responsibilities.
