Job Description
The YMCA is a globally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening communities through various programs that promote youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. With roots tracing back over 175 years, the YMCA has a longstanding tradition of fostering community engagement, inclusivity, and providing a safe and supportive environment for individuals and families. This institution, mainly functioning as a community-based nonprofit, offers an array of services such as fitness and wellness programs, child care, educational workshops, and recreational activities to people of all ages and backgrounds. The YMCA's mission emphasizes creating a healthy, vibrant community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive physically, mentally, and socially. Employees at the YMCA are not only contributing to a job but also becoming part of a respected organization committed to improving lives and building a sense of unity among diverse populations.
The available position is for a part-time Custodial and Maintenance staff member responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of YMCA facilities. This role is vital in ensuring that all areas within the facility—such as pools, locker rooms, entrances, and general spaces—are clean, sanitary, and well-maintained to provide members and visitors with a safe and enjoyable experience. Responsibilities include following strict risk management policies, properly reporting incidents and accidents, and assisting in keeping the premises free of hazards by implementing appropriate OSHA and MSDS standards. The individual in this role will be expected to handle routine custodial duties such as foaming and cleaning pool areas, maintaining locker rooms, clearing snow and ice from sidewalks during winter, and replacing supplies and lighting as needed throughout the facility.
This role demands a proactive approach to facility maintenance and an ability to work independently while collaborating with the management staff and other team members. The position requires a strong commitment to adhering to safety procedures and a detail-oriented attitude to perform tasks accurately and efficiently. Additionally, this role involves participation in staff meetings and supporting community engagement initiatives like the Strong Community Campaign. The job also emphasizes the importance of good communication skills, problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to make sound decisions even in changing environments.
Employment for this position is part-time with a midday shift focus, but flexibility to cover second and third shifts as well as weekends is essential. This role is perfect for individuals who take pride in maintaining a clean and safe environment and have a sense of responsibility towards upholding the mission, vision, and values of the YMCA. The salary and additional employment details can be discussed upon application and interview, but the overall benefit involves contributing meaningfully to an organization that makes a positive impact on the community. The role directly influences member satisfaction as reflected in Net Promoter Scores and overall membership retention, highlighting the importance of a well-maintained facility's appearance and safety to the association's success.
