The Patient & Family Concierge role at UPMC offers a unique opportunity to positively impact the patient and visitor experience within the hospital environment. This position is integral to ensuring that patients, their families, and guests feel supported and cared for throughout their stay. The Concierge’s primary mission is to facilitate seamless interactions and navigation within the hospital by providing compassionate, timely, and personalized assistance. This role supports multiple departments including environmental services, dietary, patient transport, and supply management, showcasing the dynamic and versatile nature of the job.
Individuals serving as Patient & Family Concierges are the welcoming face of the hospital, greeting patients and visitors warmly and providing clear directions and escort services to ensure smooth transitions. Confidentiality and respect for patient privacy are core principles adhered to strictly. The role extends to maintaining cleanliness and organization of patient rooms and public areas, following rigorous hygiene and safety protocols that contribute directly to infection control and patient safety. In addition, the Concierge supports dietary services by assembling and delivering meals in accordance with individual patient dietary instructions and safety standards.
Transportation responsibilities include safely moving patients, equipment, and lab specimens between various units and treatment areas, employing careful infectious control procedures and accurate documentation to maintain operational efficiency. The Concierge also plays a key role in managing specialized equipment such as telehealth carts, ensuring timely set-up, testing, and sanitation to facilitate virtual healthcare appointments.
Supply and equipment management duties require the Concierge to oversee inventory levels, organize storage spaces, and distribute supplies across patient units with precision and accountability. Monitoring temperature logs and expiration dates is crucial to maintaining compliance with health regulations and supporting clinical activities.
Overall, the Patient & Family Concierge embodies UPMC’s values and standards throughout all responsibilities. This position demands a compassionate attitude, multitasking capabilities, and the ability to adapt to changing unit needs while maintaining a focus on providing an exceptional experience from the first to the last impression. The employment type is typically full-time or part-time with salary ranges depending on the hospital’s pay scale and regional standards.
