Job Description

Harris Teeter is a reputable grocery store chain widely recognized for its commitment to quality and excellent customer service. With a strong presence in several states across the US, Harris Teeter prides itself on offering fresh produce, quality products, and a shopping experience that goes beyond simply filling a cart. As part of its dedication to customer satisfaction and community involvement, Harris Teeter continuously seeks motivated individuals to join their team in various roles that contribute to a seamless shopping atmosphere.

The Fresh Foods Department Supervisor role at Harris Teeter is pivotal in managing and ensuring the smooth operation of the fresh food section, which includes bakery, chef-prepared foods, and other perishable goods. This position requires leadership, organizational skills, and a dedication to upholding company standards. Supervisors assist the Department Manager in directing, coordinating, and evaluating the department’s activities involving up to 80 associates. This involves hands-on responsibilities like training, scheduling, performance appraisals, and addressing customer and associate concerns.

Working as a Fresh Foods Department Supervisor means being resourceful and flexible, balancing multiple tasks while maintaining focus on customer satisfaction. The supervisor engages deeply in employee development by interviewing, training, rewarding, or disciplining associates based on performance and behavior. The role demands strong interpersonal skills, patience, and a proactive approach in fostering a team environment committed to high standards for quality and service.

The job also requires utilizing computer software for inventory management, communication, and administrative tasks. Supervisors must have a solid understanding of mathematical operations relevant to retail, including cash handling and measurement conversions, ensuring accuracy in daily transactions. The role demands physical activity, including lifting moderate weights, standing for long periods, and working in various environmental conditions such as wet, humid, or cold areas, which are common in fresh food sections.

Harris Teeter emphasizes safety and inclusivity by providing necessary training, including food safety, customer service, and department management. This position not only calls for supervisory skills but a commitment to community engagement and working under pressure without compromising quality or safety. In return, Harris Teeter offers group benefits plans eligible after applicable waiting periods, reflecting their commitment to supporting employees beyond just the workplace environment.
