The Full Time Cook at Teton Science Schools plays a vital role in delivering high-quality, safe, and welcoming food service experiences across all Jackson-area campuses. This full-time position supports the culinary vision under the guidance of the Executive Chef by preparing meals efficiently and professionally. The cook is responsible for executing a variety of cooking methods—including baking, broiling, sautéing, braising, grilling, frying, roasting, and steaming—to produce nutritious and delicious meals that meet dietary guidelines and program needs. Additionally, the role involves applying best food safety practices and complying with health codes to maintain a safe dining environment for all.

The Full Time Cook is integral to controlling food costs and minimizing waste by accurately determining portion sizes based on age groups, consumption patterns, and logistical information. This position also contributes to inventory control, food ordering, and proper storage, ensuring smooth and efficient kitchen operations. Beyond technical culinary skills, the cook is expected to engage warmly with the diverse TSS community to contribute positively to the dining experience. The role requires strong interpersonal communication and a commitment to hospitality, inclusivity, and teamwork.

Job Requirements

  • ServSafe certification required or ability to obtain
  • first aid, CPR, and AED certification required or ability to obtain
  • ability to stand and work on feet for extended periods up to 10 hours per day
  • manual dexterity to operate kitchen appliances, tools, and equipment safely
  • ability to bend, stoop, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds
  • willingness to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime
  • minimum of two years of experience in a commercial kitchen

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of experience in a commercial kitchen, preferably with high-volume meal preparation
  • demonstrated proficiency across a wide range of cooking methods and culinary techniques
  • working knowledge of food preparation, safe food handling, inventory control, and culinary math such as weights, measurements, and scaling recipes
  • strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • willingness to take initiative, solve problems, and manage multiple tasks calmly and effectively

  • proficiency with digital communication tools including Google Workspace
