Job Description

Children's Home Society of South Dakota is a dedicated nonprofit organization focused on providing compassionate and trauma-informed care to children and families across the state. Established with a mission to create safe, supportive, and nurturing environments, the society offers an array of services designed to promote the well-being and healthy development of children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or other challenging circumstances. Their approach is grounded in equity and inclusion, ensuring that all children and families receive the respect and care they deserve regardless of background or situation. The Children’s Home Society is known for fostering a strong culture of community involvement and professional integrity, making it a trusted resource in South Dakota's child welfare network. The organization values its employees and seeks individuals who share a commitment to positive social impact and community service to join its team.

The role of Full Time Cook at Children’s Home Society of South Dakota is a vital position within the organization’s day-to-day operations. This position is responsible for preparing meals and snacks for children residing at the facility as well as the on-duty staff, ensuring that nourishment and food safety standards are met consistently. Working full time, this role offers a competitive wage of $20.00 per hour plus a shift differential of up to $2.00 per hour, along with a standard 40-hour workweek schedule. The shifts vary and include weekday hours, alternating weekend shifts, and holiday rotations, providing a dynamic but well-structured schedule suitable for those seeking work-life balance.

As a key member of the care environment, the cook not only handles food preparation but is also responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including storage and proper labeling of food items. This position demands strong attention to detail and adherence to health and safety protocols like food temperature monitoring, ensuring compliance with food service regulations. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to the well-being and comfort of children and staff through their role, making a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals. Working at Children's Home Society means becoming part of a mission-driven team that values respect, teamwork, and continuous personal and professional growth.

Additionally, the employment benefits offered are comprehensive, including two health insurance options, dental and vision coverage, employer-paid life insurance, disability plans, financial education assistance, generous paid time off, retirement plans with employer contributions, and referral bonuses. This package underscores the organization’s commitment to supporting employees’ health, financial security, and professional development.
