The cook position at Waltonwood is central to the operation of the kitchen and the success of the dining experience. Cooks work diligently to prepare, cook, and plate meals that meet the highest standards of taste, texture, and presentation, following culinary protocols and menus designed by the Culinary Service Director. This role also involves maintaining sanitation standards in food service areas, keeping accurate records of meals and supplies, and adhering to all regulatory compliance and health standards. Cooks collaborate closely with Culinary Supervisors and Service Directors to anticipate shortages, minimize waste, and meet the specific dietary needs of residents. They are instrumental in ensuring that storage areas are tidy and that all food products are stored properly, using food preparation tools safely and hygienically. Cooks are not only focused on food preparation but also on creating a positive dining atmosphere that excites residents about their meals and contributes to their quality of life. The role demands strong communication skills, a dedicated work ethic, effective time management, and a customer-focused mindset. Physical demands include manual dexterity, auditory and visual abilities, and the capability to handle kitchen tools and ingredients safely while working in variable temperature environments. At least two years of cooking experience in hospitality, especially fine dining, is preferred along with a high school diploma or GED and ServSafe Certification. Job Duties

  • Cook, prepare, and plate meals for the residents of our communities
  • Follow recipes, portions, and presentation specifications as set by the Culinary Service Director
  • Ensure that the food service areas are sanitized daily
  • Clean and maintain station while practicing exceptional safety techniques
  • Set up stations and collect all necessary supplies to prepare menu for daily services
  • Arrange sauces and supplementary garnishes for allocated station
  • Notify Culinary Service Director and/or Dining Room Supervisor in advance of likely shortages and access to minimize food waste
  • Review and be familiar with residents’ dining restrictions
  • Use food preparation tools in accordance with manufacturers instructions
  • Assist with stocking deliveries and taking inventory
  • Make sure all storage areas are tidy and all products are stored appropriately
  • Consistently use safe and hygienic food handling practices
  • Return dirty food preparation utensils to the appropriate areas
  • Assist with all other duties as assigned by the Culinary Service Director
