The current position available is for a Cook within the culinary team. This role is essential in providing residents with nutritious and delicious meals that meet both standard and specialized dietary needs. The Cook will be responsible for preparing all food items according to standardized recipes and production sheets, ensuring consistency and quality. Scheduled typically as a full-time employee working four 10-hour shifts per week, including every other weekend, the role provides a schedule designed to accommodate work-life balance while also meeting the evolving needs of the residents. The starting pay for this position is $17.00 per hour, reflecting the value placed on skilled culinary professionals in the community.

As a Cook at Friendship Village, you will be actively involved in various food preparation tasks such as making soups, stocks, sauces, and handling a range of cooking methods including boiling, braising, roasting, sautéing, frying, grilling, steaming, and baking. Attention to detail is critical when following standardized recipes as well as special dietary orders, ensuring that meals not only meet nutritional standards but also appeal aesthetically to the residents. Planning and organizing food production to correspond with meal serving hours is crucial for maintaining food quality in terms of temperature and presentation. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • at least two years quantity cooking experience
  • ability to read, write, and speak English
  • basic math skills
  • ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • knowledge of kitchen equipment
  • some understanding of nutrition and diet
  • ability to plan and organize work
  • physical stamina for cooking duties
  • willingness to work flexible schedules including weekends

Job Duties

  • Prepares all soups, stocks, and sauces
  • boils, braises and roasts items as per standardized recipes
  • prepares and serves all sautéed, fried, grilled, steamed and baked items as per standardized recipes
  • prepares or directs the preparation of all food served, following standard recipes and special diet orders
  • plans food production to coordinate with meal serving hours, so that quality, temperature and appearance of food is preserved
