Job Description

The hiring company is a regional public transportation provider that is committed to delivering safe, reliable, and efficient transit services to the community. This organization plays a crucial role in connecting people to work, education, healthcare, and recreational activities through an extensive network of bus routes. They uphold high standards of safety and customer service, reflecting their dedication to enhancing the quality of life for all residents in the area. Known for their strong values and collaborative work environment, this employer offers career opportunities that not only come with competitive salaries but also a comprehensive benefits package designed to support employees' well-being and professional growth.

The position available is for a bus operator, a key frontline role responsible for transporting passengers along pre-determined routes. This role involves much more than simply driving a bus; it includes providing excellent customer service by assisting passengers with route and fare information, facilitating efficient boarding and deboarding, and ensuring overall passenger safety and comfort. The bus operator will be required to monitor the farebox, ensuring that the correct fares are collected and that transfers are properly dispensed and accounted for. Daily operational tasks include filing defect cards to report any mechanical or body issues with the vehicle, communicating route changes or incidents to dispatchers, and completing records such as farebox readings and passenger counts.

Candidates must be prepared to work in diverse weather conditions, as the job involves extended periods of sitting and operating the bus. Communication skills are essential, as the bus operator will interact regularly with passengers and must report any emergencies or service disruptions promptly. This role is safety-sensitive and requires adherence to strict protocols to maintain the security of both passengers and the vehicle. The company supports its employees through a collective bargaining agreement, offering a wage rate beginning at $26.02 per hour along with a robust benefits package that includes paid holidays, comprehensive health coverage, pension plans, tuition reimbursements, and even perks such as pet insurance and health club reimbursements. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking a stable and rewarding career in public transportation with excellent prospects for professional development and community impact.
