The role of Assistant Store Manager at ALDI is a critical leadership position responsible for supporting the direct store leader in managing day-to-day store operations. This full-time position requires approximately 38 hours per week and offers a starting wage of $25.50 per hour, with an increase to $26.50 per hour starting in the second year. The Assistant Store Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the overall store performance by assisting with supervising store activities, managing employee schedules, and developing operational action plans that contribute to achieving financial and operational goals. This role also involves identifying training opportunities to support team development and growth.

The Assistant Store Manager must be capable of performing their duties independently or with reasonable accommodation. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing action plans for improving operating results, setting clear job responsibilities and performance expectations for team members, and fostering a positive work environment that aligns with ALDI's core values. The role requires monitoring the competitive environment to ensure the store maintains its competitive position within the community and providing valuable product feedback to help optimize the store's offerings. Additionally, the Assistant Store Manager participates in hiring processes, communicates important information and updates to the staff, and ensures compliance with inventory procedures, cash control policies, and store cleanliness standards.

Physical demands of this role include the ability to stock merchandise up to 45 pounds on shelves at various heights and perform regular tasks such as sitting, standing, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, and walking within the store. The position demands strong leadership capabilities, excellent communication skills, and a high level of organization and attention to detail to deliver outstanding customer service. The Assistant Store Manager also plays a key role in managing payroll and budgets, overseeing inventory counts, training new employees, and handling operational customer concerns when necessary.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a retail environment
  • A combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge
  • Prior management experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Assists the direct leader with developing and implementing action plans to improve operating results
  • Establishes and communicates job responsibilities and performance expectations to their direct reports to ensure mutual understanding and desired results
  • Identifies training and development opportunities that will assist their direct reports in achieving enhanced performance
  • Understands the overarching company strategy, as well as communicates and models the core values of the organization, to create a sense of teamwork and membership among employees
  • Monitors the competitive environment within the community and informs the direct leader regarding adjustments necessary to maintain the company’s competitive position
  • Provides product feedback to the direct leader, including making recommendations regarding new items to carry or those that should be discontinued
  • Participates in the interviewing process for store personnel
  • Communicates information including weekly information, major team milestones, developments, and concerns
  • Ensures store personnel adhere to inventory procedures, product handling guidelines, and cash control policies to minimize losses
  • Ensures an appropriate resolution of operational customer concerns in their direct leader’s absence
  • Identifies and rectifies hazards, ensuring proper ergonomics and maintaining store equipment in proper working order
  • Maintains store cleanliness standards and proper store signage at all times
  • Assists the direct leader with maintaining proper stock levels through appropriate product ordering
  • Merchandises product neatly to maximize sales
  • Ensures the quality and freshness of products for sale and accuracy of product signage
  • Assists their direct leader with achieving the store payroll and total loss budget, inventory counts, and training new employees
  • Supervises the day-to-day operations of their team, escalating issues to the appropriate level of support and/or leadership when necessary
  • Ensures direct reports complete assigned responsibilities in a timely and effective manner to provide the highest level of customer service for the business
  • Complies with all established company policies and procedures while upholding the security and confidentiality of documents and data
  • Other duties as assigned
