The Assistant Store Manager at ALDI plays a critical role in supporting the Store Manager by assisting in the supervision of daily store activities, ensuring smooth store performance and customer satisfaction. This role includes responsibilities such as managing staff schedules, helping to develop operational action plans, and identifying opportunities for employee training and development to build a strong, capable team. The Assistant Store Manager helps maintain store standards regarding inventory control, hygiene, safety, and merchandising while also taking an active role in hiring new employees and resolving customer issues in the absence of the Store Manager. This position demands a proactive individual who can collaborate with teams, elevate operational results, and model ALDI’s core values in all aspects of store leadership. The physical demands of the job include lifting merchandise up to 45 pounds, standing and walking throughout the store, and maintaining a clean and organized environment. This role is ideal for candidates with retail management experience, strong leadership skills, and a passion for creating an exceptional shopping experience through effective team leadership and operational excellence.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years progressive retail experience
  • Combination of education and experience considered equivalent
  • Prior management experience preferred
  • Ability to stock merchandise and lift up to 45 pounds
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, push, pull, lift, carry, and walk throughout the store
  • Ability to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Minimum age of 18 years

Job Duties

  • Assist the direct leader with developing and implementing action plans to improve operating results
  • Establish and communicate job responsibilities and performance expectations to direct reports
  • Identify training and development opportunities for direct reports
  • Understand and communicate company strategy and core values
  • Monitor the competitive environment and inform direct leader of necessary adjustments
  • Provide product feedback and recommendations
  • Participate in interviewing store personnel
  • Communicate weekly information, team milestones, and concerns
  • Ensure adherence to inventory procedures, product handling, and cash control policies
  • Resolve operational customer concerns in the direct leader’s absence
  • Identify and rectify hazards and maintain store equipment
  • Maintain cleanliness standards and proper store signage
  • Assist with maintaining stock levels through product ordering
  • Merchandise products neatly to maximize sales
  • Ensure product quality, freshness, and accurate signage
  • Assist with achieving payroll and loss budgets, inventory counts, and training new employees
  • Supervise day-to-day team operations and escalate issues as needed
  • Ensure timely and effective completion of responsibilities for high-level customer service
  • Comply with company policies and uphold document and data confidentiality
  • Perform other duties as assigned
