The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager by overseeing daily store operations and driving overall store performance. This role includes managing staff schedules, developing action plans to improve operational results, and fostering a teamwork-oriented atmosphere that aligns with ALDI's core values. You will be instrumental in identifying employee training needs and facilitating their growth to enhance team performance.

Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with inventory and cash control procedures, maintaining store cleanliness and signage standards, and monitoring competitor activity to keep ALDI’s market position strong. The Assistant Store Manager actively participates in hiring decisions, communicates critical information to the team, and ensures exceptional customer service in the Store Manager's absence. Physical demands require the ability to stock merchandise, handle products weighing up to 45 pounds, and perform various manual tasks such as standing, walking, lifting, and bending during a typical workday.

Job Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old
Ability to stock merchandise weighing up to 45 pounds
Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, push, pull, lift, carry, and walk around the store
Ability to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation

Job Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Minimum of three years progressive retail experience
Prior management experience preferred
Ability to work independently and in a team
Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Knowledge of company policies and procedures
Strong organizational and multitasking skills
Ability to operate cash registers and store equipment safely
Understanding of budgeting, personnel costs, and expense management

Job Duties

Assist the direct leader with developing and implementing action plans to improve operating results
Establish and communicate job responsibilities and performance expectations to direct reports
Identify training and development opportunities for direct reports
Understand and model company core values to foster teamwork
Monitor competitive environment and inform direct leader of necessary adjustments
Provide product feedback and recommendations to direct leader
Participate in interviewing store personnel
Communicate weekly information, team milestones, and concerns
Ensure adherence to inventory procedures, product handling, and cash control policies
Resolve operational customer concerns in the direct leader's absence
Identify and rectify hazards, maintain proper ergonomic and equipment standards
Maintain store cleanliness and proper signage
Assist with product ordering and stock level maintenance
Merchandise products neatly to maximize sales
Ensure product quality, freshness, and signage accuracy
Help achieve store payroll and loss budgets, conduct inventory counts, and train new employees
Supervise daily team operations and escalate issues as needed
Ensure timely and effective completion of responsibilities by direct reports
Comply with all company policies and maintain confidentiality
Perform other duties as assigned
