The position of Fresh Foods Department Assistant Manager at Harris Teeter is a leadership role within this dynamic and customer-focused environment. In this role, the Assistant Manager will assist the Department Manager in overseeing the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Fresh Foods Department. They will carry out supervisory responsibilities per Harris Teeter’s policies and standards, and may also perform duties typically assigned to bakers, fryers, cake decorators, Fresh Foods clerks, and chefs. This position requires involvement in interviewing, training, scheduling, assigning work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining associates, and resolving customer complaints. The Assistant Manager is expected to be flexible and capable of managing multiple tasks effectively under pressure while maintaining a high level of patience when interacting with both customers and associates.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, along with one to three years of relevant experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The Assistant Manager must also possess fundamental mathematical skills and be capable of reading, writing, and communicating effectively in English.
Physical demands of the role include standing, walking, handling or feeling, reaching, talking, hearing, tasting, and smelling regularly. The Associate must occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch and be able to lift up to 40 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 60 pounds. The work environment often involves exposure to wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic chemicals, and extreme cold. Noise levels are generally moderate.
