Job Description

This job opportunity is within a professional culinary setting, focused on delivering exemplary dining experiences to residents and guests. The establishment is committed to creating a welcoming environment and providing exceptional service distinguished by the Platinum Service® standards. The role is titled Server and is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). This position plays a vital part in the overall success of the team and community by ensuring residents have the best dining experiences possible.

The Server is responsible for more than just serving food and beverages; they act as a crucial link between the culinary team and the residents, contributing positively to the ambiance and comfort of the dining environment. They must ensure that meals are not only palatable but also visually appealing, served according to established portion controls to maintain quality and consistency. The Server’s role encompasses delivering prompt, courteous, and personalized service aligning with the Platinum Service® philosophy, which emphasizes responsiveness, care, and professionalism. Their duties include menu distribution, taking orders, answering menu questions, and assisting residents with their dining needs such as opening containers and providing condiments. Additionally, Servers are involved in setting up meal trays and food carts, maintaining cleanliness of the dining area, bussing tables, and supporting other dining rooms during special events or activities.

This position requires a balance of physical stamina and interpersonal skills. Servers frequently lift and carry up to 30 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds, engage in tasks that demand standing or walking for extended periods, and perform movements like bending, twisting, and reaching. Communication skills are essential to interact effectively with supervisors, colleagues, residents, and their families, ensuring seamless service delivery. The role can also involve exposure to varying environmental factors such as heat from kitchen equipment and cold from kitchens freezers and requires adherence to sanitary regulations at all times for the safety and satisfaction of residents.

Ideal candidates for the Server role will have prior experience in food service or hospitality, although training is provided to align with the high standards expected. The establishment values employees who can make independent decisions, demonstrate tact and professionalism with people from diverse backgrounds, including elderly, disabled, and emotionally upset residents, and execute tasks proficiently while maintaining quality and efficiency.

Working in this role also means regularly following established policies and procedures detailed in employee handbooks and departmental manuals. Employees should be adaptable to changing duties and requirements that management may assign as needed. The Server position, while not supervisory in nature, requires a proactive, detail-oriented individual dedicated to contributing to a positive dining culture that enriches the residents’ quality of life.
