This opportunity is for a Retail Store Team Member position based at the Reading, Pennsylvania location. The role is essential in maintaining GIANT’s commitment to food quality and safety by performing a variety of food preparation and merchandising tasks. Responsibilities include making sandwiches, subs, wraps, pizzas, and appetizers; roasting and frying chicken; heating soups; and preparing deli products for display. The team member will be expected to follow detailed standard operating procedures to ensure consistency and quality, as well as adhering to the company’s comprehensive food safety and sanitation standards. This role offers a hands-on experience in a fast-paced grocery setting where attention to detail, cleanliness, teamwork, and customer service are key.

The position requires good physical stamina, as employees will handle lifting up to 50 pounds, stand and walk for long periods, and work in a variety of temperature conditions ranging from freezers to non-air-conditioned back rooms. The role includes tasks such as inventory management, product ordering for specific programs like smoked products, loss tracking, and maintaining accurate records. Safety compliance is paramount, with workers expected to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including cut-resistant gloves when handling knives and blades. Workers will also undergo mandatory safety trainings such as lockout/tagout, confined space, and right-to-know to ensure a safe working environment.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 4-hour shifts or more depending on business needs

Job Duties

  • Review work schedule and prepare equipment and supplies
  • manage production planning
  • complete invoice review
  • produce products for sales floor warmers and hot bar per POG and SOP
  • clean and sanitize work surfaces, tools, equipment, display cases, floors and counters
  • complete daily food safety compliance logs
  • track and record losses using known loss tracking
  • train team members
  • make sandwiches, subs, wraps, label and display per SOP
  • make and serve pizza
  • assist customers, cut and slice meat or cheese, portion, weigh and label deli items
  • produce grab and go section items
  • roast and wrap chicken
  • clean and maintain roaster and fryer
  • fry chicken and stock fryer
  • breakdown and clean equipment every four hours
  • order products for smoked program
  • produce smoked products per SOP
  • maintain cleanliness with various cleaning tools
  • perform record keeping assigned by manager
  • manage markdowns and Flashfoods
  • conduct order reviews and upload live freight
  • execute merchandising programs
  • plan weekly circular ad
  • organize sales floor cooler and freezer
