This particular role is based at Food Lion’s Store 00809 Deli located at 3037 Legion Rd in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The position is rooted in retail operations with an emphasis on managing deli bakery and HMS department activities. The role supports store management by overseeing daily operations to meet financial and sales goals and fostering strong associate and customer relationships. The focus is not just on meeting financial targets but also on cultivating a positive and inclusive culture aligned with the Food Lion brand strategy. Communication with the management team and all associates is critical, allowing for smooth operations and a collaborative work environment.

The primary purpose of this position is to assist in managing the Deli Bakery HMS department in the absence of the Deli Manager, which includes supervising associates and ensuring that all aspects of department duties are properly executed. This involves scheduling associates to provide exceptional customer service, coaching staff to enhance productivity, and maintaining the overall appearance, safety, and food quality standards in the department. The successful candidate is expected to be a role model for outstanding customer service, demonstrating knowledge of department products and using this expertise to exceed customer expectations.

Operational efficiency is a key component of this role, requiring the use of company tools such as financial reports, scheduling systems, ordering software (CAO), and inventory management systems like the Average Cost Inventory System (ACIS). Responsibilities also include managing labor costs, controlling shrink through coaching and inventory accountability, and ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to food safety, workplace safety, and sanitation.

Maintaining security standards, adhering to company guidelines, policies, and best practices, and demonstrating a neat, well-groomed personal appearance consistent with the company dress code are also essential. The position requires the individual to successfully complete required training, including computer-based training and other aid courses, and to be physically able to meet the job’s demands, which range from lifting and pushing items to standing for extended periods.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to push or pull up to 2000 pounds using a pallet jack
  • Bend and lift products weighing up to 15 lbs. continuously, 25 lbs. frequently, and 50 lbs. on occasion
  • Pull or push up to 75 lbs. on occasion
  • Stand 100% of the time with frequently walking short distances
  • Be able to handle a variety of substances associated with cleaning and packaging materials, and household cleaners
  • Perform repetitive hand and arm motions
  • Frequent reaching and grasping at waist level: occasionally above shoulder or below waist level
  • Meet established volume activity standards for the position
  • Tolerate working in extreme hot/cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes at a time
  • Have sufficient visual ability to checks, invoices and other written documents

Job Qualifications

  • A high school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to lead and manage a team
  • Strong understanding of store operations and merchandising techniques preferred
  • Effective communication, customer service, and selling skills
  • Ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job
  • Ability to use technical information to solve problems
  • Must meet minimum age requirements to perform specific job function
  • Must be accredited by the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals or similar accrediting organization as a certified food safety manager or will be required to attend company provided training and have the ability to achieve accreditation within the first 90 days of employment
  • Accreditation must be maintained while employed in a position requiring accreditation

Job Duties

  • Manage the Deli Bakery HMS Department in the absence of the Deli Manager, including supervising the performance of all duties and responsibilities of Deli Bakery HMS Associates
  • Daily management of labor (i.e. expected live) and the coaching of associates to achieve productivity expectation
  • Provide leadership and motivation within the store to promote a culture reflective of our Brand Strategy and Culture
  • Support the achievement of budgeted financial and operating results
  • Smile and maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with primary emphasis on fast, easy, flexible and friendly customer service all while creating a positive shopping experience for customers
  • Role model outstanding, friendly customer service and use skills and knowledge of department products to offer solutions that meet or exceed customers' expectations
  • Control store's expenses through proper ordering, care for supplies and equipment
  • Understand and use company tools such as financial reports, ACIS, scheduling, productivity, ordering (CAO), and business information systems
  • Understands and utilizes Average Cost Inventory System (ACIS)
  • Perform duties that ensure department appearance, quality, variety, workplace safety, food safety and department sanitation are consistently maintained
  • Ensure Deli Bakery HMS schedules are written to provide extraordinary customer service at all times, should create every other week
  • Ensure that ordering, receiving, preparation, conditioning and displaying of merchandise is done in accordance with policies and guidelines
  • Observe and correct all unsafe conditions that could cause associate or customer accidents
  • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations
  • Record and report all associate and customer accidents in accordance with established Food Lion procedures
  • Monitor shrink ensuring that inventory is accounted for
  • provide coaching for associates to recognize and prevent losses
  • Ensure that all advertising and sales promotion materials applicable to the Deli Bakery HMS are properly utilized
  • Adhere to all company guidelines, policies and standard practices
  • Maintain security standards
  • Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance at all times
  • comply with company dress code and personal appearance guidelines
  • Successfully complete Computer Based Training (CBT), Training Packet and Training Aid courses
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • All other duties as assigned
