The role of Deli Bakery Associate at Food Lion is critical to maintaining the high standards for which the company is known. Based in the Columbia, SC location at 1013 Broad River Road, this position is focused on delivering exceptional customer service within the Deli Bakery Department. The associate will play a vital role in ensuring that Food Lion’s deli offerings meet the company’s stringent standards for freshness, presentation, and food safety. This is a hands-on position requiring adherence to recipes and preparation techniques as outlined in the standard practice manual, contributing to both sales maximization and reduction of product shrinkage.

The associate will be expected to maintain an enthusiastic and friendly environment while providing fast, accurate, and courteous customer service. Knowledge of ingredient use, production standards, and proper sanitation procedures is essential. The role also involves monitoring product ordering, receiving, preparation, conditioning, and display according to company policies. Wearing the Food Lion uniform and maintaining a clean, neat appearance during shifts is required, alongside compliance with safety guidelines including Food Safety and Workplace Safety standards.

Successful candidates will complete various training modules, including Computer Based Training and other training aids provided by Food Lion. Physical demands include standing for extended periods, lifting varying weights, and working in temperature-controlled environments. Job Requirements

  • Ability to use computers and other communication systems required to perform job functions
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm motions
  • Ability to bend and lift products weighing up to 15 lbs continuously, 25 lbs frequently, and 50 lbs on occasion
  • Ability to pull or push up to 75 lbs on occasion
  • Ability to stand 100% of the time, frequently walking short distances
  • Ability to handle a variety of substances associated with cleaning and packaging materials
  • Ability to frequently reach and grasp at waist level, occasionally above shoulder or below waist level
  • Ability to meet established volume activity standards for the position
  • Ability to tolerate working in extreme hot/cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes at a time

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and customer service skills
  • Ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job
  • Ability to use technical information to solve problems

Job Duties

  • Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with primary emphasis on fast, friendly, and accurate customer service to create a positive shopping experience
  • Courteous and helpful to other associates
  • Understand the use of ingredients, mixes, and icings and coordinates colors
  • Understand production standards for processing of all product
  • Follow all technical manuals for processing of product, label placement, etc.
  • Ensure proper sanitation of department, equipment and proper food handling/preparation
  • Ensure that ordering, receiving, preparation, conditioning and displaying of merchandise is done in accordance with policies and guidelines
  • Maintain a complete understanding of and adherence to company guidelines, policies and standard practice
  • Understand and follow Food Safety and Workplace Safety guidelines and procedures
  • Observe and correct all unsafe conditions that could cause associate or customer accidents
  • Report all associate and customer accidents in accordance with established Food Lion procedures to the Manager on Duty
  • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations
  • Wear the Food Lion uniform with apron, complete with name badge, when on duty, has a neat and clean appearance while adhering to the Food Lion dress code
  • Understand and use company tools such as
  • average cost inventory system (ACIS) and ordering (CAO)
  • Successfully complete Computer Based Training (CBT), Training Packet and Training Aid courses
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
