Job Description

The GIANT Company is a prominent grocery retail chain with a long-standing commitment to serving communities across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and New Jersey. Known for its inclusive workplace culture and dedication to customer satisfaction, GIANT operates numerous stores that prioritize quality service, team collaboration, and community engagement. The company values such as care, courage, integrity, teamwork, and humor form the foundation of its working environment, fostering a positive atmosphere where employees feel valued and empowered to contribute ideas and grow their careers. With a focus on family and health, The GIANT Company aims to create a welcoming space not only for customers to shop but also for team members to develop meaningful relationships and skills. Operating out of its Reading, Pennsylvania location at 4655 Perkiomen Avenue, GIANT’s store management teams play an essential role in upholding these values and delivering excellent grocery retail experiences.

This particular role within The GIANT Company falls under Retail Store Positions, specifically the Store Manager category. The Store Manager works as a crucial link between the store operations and the company’s broader strategic goals. The position involves a dynamic mix of leadership, operational oversight, and hands-on participation in daily store functions to ensure that customers receive excellent service and quality products at all times. Responsibilities include overseeing scheduling and work assignments, training and managing team members, managing inventory and stock levels, handling store merchandising duties, and maintaining clean and safe environments compliant with company policies and safety regulations. In addition to typical grocery store duties, this role includes managing specialized departments such as in-store Starbucks operations.

The role requires adherence to safety protocols, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) compliance and operational readiness at each shift’s start. Detailed attention to product quality through date checking, pricing adjustments on items nearing expiration, and proper packaging is essential. The Store Manager is also involved in baking duties which include assembling ingredients, mixing, baking, packaging, and labeling goods to ensure high standards of freshness and presentation. The successful candidate will have to demonstrate strong organizational skills, effective leadership, and the capability to maintain operational excellence across various departments within the store environment.

Employment here typically includes a probationary introductory period of 60 days, with the opportunity to work shifts ranging from 8 to 10 hours depending on business needs. Physical capabilities such as lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for more than half the shift, and the ability to perform continuous job cycles are prerequisites. The company also requires completion of specific training programs like an in-house forklift certification, reflecting the operational demands of the role.

By joining The GIANT Company’s retail team, candidates will be part of a diverse and inclusive employer who values equal opportunity and promotes a culture of respect and personal development. This position offers a meaningful career path where one can make significant contributions to the community and participate in a stellar team environment, all while upholding The GIANT Company’s dedication to quality and service excellence.
