Job Description
Hannaford Supermarkets is a well-established retail grocery chain with a rich history dating back to 1883, originating as a fresh produce vendor in Portland, Maine. Over the decades, Hannaford has grown into a respected supermarket brand known for its commitment to quality, local sourcing, sustainability, and community engagement. As a company, Hannaford takes pride in supporting local farmers and producers through its Local program, which not only promotes local foods but also helps preserve farmland, uphold regional traditions, and sustain local jobs. This focus on local connection is a fundamental part of the company culture and operations, setting it apart as a market leader dedicated to fresh, sustainable, and responsibly sourced products. Hannaford notably became the first major supermarket in the United States to document that all its seafood products were sustainably harvested, reflecting its leadership in food ethics and environmental responsibility.
This opportunity is for a key role within Hannaford's Meat Department located at the South Burlington store in Vermont. The Meat Department Manager position is a crucial leadership role responsible for overseeing departmental operations and ensuring the highest standards of product quality, customer service, and safety compliance. As a department manager or in the absence of one, you will lead and direct associates, manage product inventory, maintain merchandising standards, and monitor department compliance with company policies including pricing, food safety, and sanitation. The role demands strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members, store management, and broader organizational functions. You will actively support the professional development and training of meat associates, recognizing excellent service and coaching when necessary to uphold team performance and customer satisfaction.
The role is physically demanding, requiring frequent lifting of meat products, standing and walking throughout the shift, and the ability to perform detailed manual tasks such as cutting, wrapping, and pricing meat. Additional duties include using company tools and resources such as financial reports and scheduling systems to manage department productivity and staffing efficiently.
This position offers an hourly pay range of $21.75 to $31.60 and requires candidates who can meet the physical aspects of the job, with or without accommodations. Hannaford Supermarkets is committed to equal employment opportunity and diversity, welcoming applicants regardless of race, religion, color, sex (including pregnancy or childbirth), age, veteran status, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
