The GIANT Company is a well-established and reputable retail grocery chain serving millions of neighbors across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and New Jersey. Known for its commitment to building strong families and healthy communities, the company has cultivated a welcoming and inclusive environment for both customers and employees. Guided by shared values such as care, courage, integrity, teamwork, and humor, The GIANT Company strives to provide exceptional shopping experiences and foster meaningful connections within the communities it serves. It places great emphasis on doing what is right and winning together, creating a collaborative atmosphere that encourages team members to share ideas, learn new skills, and grow professionally. As part of its commitment to inclusivity, the company values the unique talents and differences of every team member, ensuring a workplace that respects and embraces diversity.
This particular role is located at the GIANT store on 1600 Nay Aug Ave in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and aligns with the retail store positions category. The position primarily involves ordering, scheduling work and production, supervising and training team members, and executing essential department tasks, including receiving, storing, and stocking items. The successful candidate will be responsible for checking dates and changing prices of items nearing expiration, managing markdowns, and tracking losses. Additionally, this role requires proficiency in operating equipment and performing tasks within deli, carryout, café, and cheese departments. Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards for all work surfaces, tools, equipment, display cases, floors, and counters is a key aspect of the job.
The candidate will be expected to prepare and package food items such as sandwiches, subs, wraps, and pizza following the company’s standard operating procedures (SOP). Duties also encompass assisting customers, slicing meat and cheese, portioning deli foods, labeling products, producing for grab-and-go self-serve cases, and preparing roasted and fried chicken, including cleaning and maintaining cooking equipment. The role may include managing the smoked program in coordination with the meat department, training team members on smoking procedures, and ensuring equipment is cleaned every 4 hours.
Attention to detail and adherence to safety guidelines are critically important, as team members must comply with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and demonstrate proper food safety and sanitation work habits. The job also involves physical activities like lifting weights up to 50 pounds, standing and walking for extended periods, and operating machinery safely. Employees must follow company policies strictly, including reporting accidents promptly and adhering to emergency evacuation procedures.
Overall, this role offers a purposeful career opportunity within a family-oriented and community-focused company. Candidates will gain valuable experience in retail store operations while contributing to a positive, safe, and efficient workplace. Team members are encouraged to develop their careers through continuous training, including food safety certification, Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, and Right-to-Know courses. Joining The GIANT Company means becoming part of a team that makes a tangible difference in the lives of customers and the community while fostering personal growth and professional development in a supportive work environment.
