Located at 3855 Kecoughtan Road, Hampton, VA, Food Lion's Store 01299 Deli Bakery HMS Department is looking for an experienced and motivated professional to join their team in a leadership role. The employment type for this position is full-time, focused on supporting the deli bakery department and store-wide operations to meet financial goals and deliver an outstanding customer experience. This role is essential in ensuring operational excellence and will entail working closely with the deli manager and store leadership team.

The primary purpose of this position is to support and manage day-to-day store operations, especially leading the deli bakery HMS department in the absence of the deli manager. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership capabilities, able to motivate and build strong relationships with both associates and customers while promoting the Food Lion brand culture. This involves ensuring that all financial, sales, and productivity goals are met and that all store operations comply with company policies and local, state, and federal regulations. Candidates must be proficient with company systems including financial reports, scheduling tools, and inventory management systems like the Average Cost Inventory System (ACIS).

As the acting manager for the deli bakery HMS department, the candidate will be responsible for supervising associates' performance, managing labor, optimizing productivity, and maintaining the department's appearance, sanitation, and safety standards. The position requires overseeing ordering, receiving, preparing, and displaying merchandise while controlling expenses and preventing shrinkage through effective inventory management. This role demands excellent customer service skills, emphasizing a fast, friendly, and flexible interaction that enhances the shopping experience. The successful applicant will also be responsible for training and coaching associates, ensuring all shifts have appropriate staffing, and maintaining security and compliance standards. Additionally, this role demands physical stamina to fulfill duties that include lifting, pushing, and standing for extended periods. Candidates must also be accredited as a Certified Food Safety Manager or be willing to obtain this certification within the first 90 days. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in retail operations or deli bakery preferred
  • Ability to manage and lead a team effectively
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and business tools
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting and standing for long periods
  • Certification or willingness to obtain Certified Food Safety Manager accreditation within 90 days
  • Compliance with company policies and safety regulations
  • Ability to work flexible hours as required

Job Qualifications

  • A high school graduate or equivalent preferred

  • Accredited by the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals or similar as a Certified Food Safety Manager or willing to obtain accreditation within 90 days maintaining it while employed

Job Duties

  • Manage the deli bakery HMS department in the absence of the deli manager including supervising all duties and responsibilities of deli bakery HMS associates
  • Daily management of labor including coaching associates to achieve productivity expectations
  • Provide leadership and motivation within the store to promote a culture reflective of Food Lion brand strategy and culture
  • Support the achievement of budgeted financial and operating results
  • Smile and maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness emphasizing fast, easy, flexible and friendly customer service
  • Role model outstanding friendly customer service and offer solutions using knowledge of department products
  • Control store expenses through proper ordering care for supplies and equipment
  • Use company tools such as financial reports ACIS scheduling productivity ordering and business information systems
  • Ensure department appearance quality variety workplace safety food safety and sanitation are maintained
  • Schedule deli bakery HMS associates to provide extraordinary customer service
  • Ensure ordering receiving preparation conditioning and displaying of merchandise is done according to policies and guidelines
  • Observe and correct unsafe conditions to prevent accidents
  • Ensure compliance with local state and federal regulations
  • Record and report all associate and customer accidents per Food Lion procedures
  • Monitor shrink and coach associates to prevent losses
  • Ensure proper use of advertising and sales promotion materials
  • Adhere to all company guidelines policies and standard practices
  • Maintain security standards
  • Maintain a neat well-groomed personal appearance and comply with company dress code
  • Complete required computer based training and courses
  • Meet physical requirements of the position with or without accommodation
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
