The Front Office Specialist role at UNLV Health is vital in maintaining smooth operations and ensuring a positive patient experience. This position is primarily responsible for managing patient appointments, greeting and assisting patients and visitors, and facilitating communication between patients and healthcare providers. The Front Office Specialist serves as the first point of contact, representing the clinic's professionalism and compassion. This role demands excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and a warm, empathetic demeanor given the sensitive nature of the patient population, which includes individuals with serious mental illness. Emphasizing customer service excellence, the specialist will verify insurance eligibility, process referrals, handle patient check-ins and check-outs, and collect payments efficiently.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency
- legally authorized to work in the United States
- minimum one year experience in customer service, preferably healthcare
- current and valid driver’s license
- knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT codes
- computer proficiency with Microsoft Office
- excellent communication skills
- ability to maintain confidentiality
- ability to work with challenging patients
- ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods
- ability to lift up to 25 pounds
- ability to work evenings and weekends if required
- adherence to company dress code and professional appearance
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalency
- minimum one year customer service experience, preferably in healthcare
- current and valid driver's license
- demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Office
- knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines
- understanding of medical terminology
- familiarity with Medicare guidelines
- excellent oral and written communication skills
- well organized and detail-oriented
- ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, team members, physicians, and the public
- bilingual Spanish is a plus
Job Duties
- Answers the telephone and forwards calls to appropriate individuals
- schedules and processes referrals
- schedules and records patient appointments
- advises patients on standard instructions and procedure
- records cancellations and no-shows
- greets patients and visitors, assists with sign-in and registration
- prepares sign-in sheets
- verifies insurance
- handles revenue collection at patient check-out
- collects co-pays and provides receipts
- schedules patient follow-up appointments
- follows telephone and email etiquette
- communicates calmly and respectfully
