Job Description

This position is within a well-established retail company known for its dedication to exceptional customer service and upholding strong core values including respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. The company operates various retail locations where customer satisfaction and integrity in service delivery are paramount. This role, specifically situated at the Customer Service Desk and cashier stations, plays a critical part in ensuring the smooth operation of the store and fostering a welcoming, helpful environment for shoppers. The retail environment is fast-paced, requiring employees who are adaptable and can maintain accuracy under pressure. The employment type is typically full-time or part-time, depending on the store's needs, and employees are expected to work flexible hours including weekends, evenings, and overtime when necessary. The salary is competitive within the retail sector and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The role is comprehensive, combining sales processing, customer service, and operational tasks. Employees are responsible for managing various cashier duties such as opening and closing registers, accurately ringing sales, managing tender transactions, and handling money drops. Attention to detail is essential to perform these tasks efficiently and accurately. Additionally, this role has responsibilities in maintaining store cleanliness and orderliness at the checkstand area, ensuring the environment is pleasant and safe for customers and staff alike.

Customer interaction is a primary component of the job; employees demonstrate and embody the company's core values in every transaction and interaction. Duties extend beyond basic cashier functions and include responsibilities at the Customer Service Desk where employees process refunds, exchanges, handle money orders and bill payments, sell gift cards, and manage equipment rentals. Providing additional services such as lottery tickets and fishing and game licenses (with some regional restrictions) broadens the scope of customer service provided.

Store accounting duties are also incorporated, including maintaining accurate store accounting functions, preparing bank deposits for excess funds, and running vendor reports. Such tasks demand organizational skills and the capability to prioritize tasks effectively.

The successful candidate is capable of working cooperatively with fellow staff in a dynamic and sometimes stressful retail setting. They must navigate conflicts reasonably and professionally, always maintaining a stance of honesty and integrity, especially regarding sensitive customer and business information. The role requires following established procedures and seeking guidance when issues arise to ensure both customer and company interests are safeguarded.

Additional responsibilities include security measures such as verifying electronic article surveillance tags at the point of sale and responding appropriately to security system activations, which helps reduce theft and loss for the company.

The ability to offer assistance and support directly to diverse customer demographics, including minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults, is crucial. The company is committed to inclusion and accessibility, and the job must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation, adhering to all relevant workplace safety and compliance standards.

This position offers a robust foundation for those looking to grow in retail management or customer service roles, providing critical experience in transactions, customer relations, and basic accounting procedures within a reputable retail environment. It is ideal for individuals with a passion for customer service, strong organizational skills, and an honest, diligent work ethic.
