The role of the Front Desk Agent is pivotal in delivering exceptional guest experiences. The primary responsibilities include courteously and efficiently checking in and checking out hotel guests, processing payments accurately in accordance with established hotel policies, and providing comprehensive information and assistance to guests and visitors. Reporting directly to the Front Office Manager or Assistant Front Office Manager, this position is integral to the front desk and back office operations as well as guest rooms and all public areas within the hotel.
This position requires strong interpersonal skills to maintain key relationships internally with various hotel departments such as Bell/Door, Transportation, PBX, Concierge, Reservations, Assistant Managers, Sales & Catering, Housekeeping, Restaurants, Accounting, Engineering, and Security. Externally, the agent will interact with guests, tour company representatives, limousine service personnel, and other hotels, ensuring smooth communication and guest satisfaction.
Key qualifications for the role include a high school diploma or equivalent vocational training certificate, basic computer arithmetic skills, and fluency in English both verbally and in writing. The role demands attention to detail, the ability to prioritize tasks effectively, remain calm under pressure, resolve problems with sound judgment, follow directions thoroughly, understand guest service needs, work cohesively in a team, and maintain confidentiality of guest information.
The position demands frequent standing and walking throughout shifts, the physical capability to perform tasks such as reaching overhead, remaining stationary for extended periods, and lifting objects up to 60 pounds. Previous experience in front desk operations, cashiering, guest relations, and proficiency in a foreign language like Spanish, Russian, or Portuguese are desirable. Certifications such as CPR and training in guest relations are advantageous.
