Job Requirements

minimum age 18
high school diploma or equivalent
completion of company orientation
completion of food safety and sanitation training upon hire
ability to function in a fast-paced retail environment
ability to work with customers and remain attentive to their needs
physical ability to perform tasks such as standing, walking, bending, reaching overhead and at various levels, stooping, squatting, crouching, kneeling, stair climbing, pivoting, twisting, pushing, pulling, pinching, and performing fine motor movements
ability to lift and manage weights up to 55 lbs and occasionally more with assistance
adherence to safety protocols regarding lifting and handling
compliance with department and store operating procedures

knowledge of computer systems and equipment (e.g., PC, symbol, scales, label machine)

Job Duties

provide superior customer service
take orders from customers by telephone or in person
answer customer questions regarding products
assist them with selections
prepare, package, and merchandise fresh product effectively
slice, package, label, rotate, and cull products for poor quality
assist in technical areas as needed (e.g., basic set-up and clean-up processes)
use suggestive selling techniques and basic product knowledge to meet customer needs and build department sales
clean and sanitize display cases
operate and maintain equipment properly
comply with H-E-B food safety and sanitation standards
comply with department and store operating procedures
record production and shrink to aid in production planning (bakery)
assist in baking, frying, and decorating (bakery)
cull bakery products for poor quality and expiration dates
take care of service counter customers (deli)
use ordering system applications (deli)
use Fresh Production Planner (deli)
perform inventory management processes as required (deli)
ensure catering orders are prepared and ready in time for customer pickup (if applicable, deli)
perform all sanitation and maintenance tasks for deli slicers
serve and package products at customer's request (prepared foods)
educate customers on preparation and reheating instructions of prepared foods
prepackage condiments for prepared food items
cut, slice, dice, and chop food in preparation for chef
