The Fresh Cut Produce Associate role at Harmons is an integral position that supports the produce department by ensuring the quality and freshness of all freshly prepared products. This role involves preparing and packaging fresh cut fruits and vegetables, fresh salsa, guacamole, and other freshly made items, following established company recipes and guidelines. The associate works closely with team members to maintain proper inventory and product assortment and delivers exceptional customer service. The position offers hourly compensation ranging from $20.35 to $21.85 and is designed for candidates who are detail-oriented, customer-focused, and capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

This role requires the associate to maintain departmental standards, including cleanliness, sanitation, accurate pricing, and signage for all products, with a particular focus on advertised items. A hallmark of the job is the responsibility to prepare fresh products for everyday sales and special orders or events, demonstrating flexibility and precision. Additionally, the associate plays a mentoring role by training new fresh cut associates and providing ongoing feedback to enhance team performance. This includes writing production sheets based on sales projections to ensure product availability while minimizing waste.

The position demands consistent interaction with customers and store associates, reinforcing Harmons' commitment to excellent service and teamwork. The ideal candidate will possess a current Food Handler's Permit and demonstrate abilities such as quick work pace, recipe interpretation, basic math skills for recipe adjustment, and strong communication skills. Physical demands include the ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds, making physical fitness an important aspect of success in this role.

Job Duties

  • Follows established departmental and store policies and procedures
  • ensures the quality and freshness of all products and services the produce department provides
  • responsible for maintaining the appropriate product assortment and inventory levels for the produce department
  • confirms pricing accuracy and signage for all products, paying particular attention to ad items
  • ensures the produce department is cleaned and sanitized daily and meets the company standards for appearance
  • delivers excellent service to all customers
  • prepares all fresh-cut fruits and vegetables, fresh salsa and guacamole, etc. following Harmons' guidelines and recipes
  • prepares food for special orders and events
  • takes special orders over the phone or in person
  • ensures the proper receiving and stocking of product
  • teaches, mentors, and educates associates to help them be successful members of the team
  • provides honest, direct, and constant feedback to associates regarding their performance and areas of improvement
  • writing production sheets based on department needs and past and projected sales
  • assists as needed to ensure the success of the produce department as a whole
