Job Description
Sofar Sounds is an innovative and globally recognized community that bridges the gap between creatives and audiences through unique, intimate live musical experiences. Founded in London in 2009, Sofar Sounds has expanded to operate in over 400 cities worldwide, creating a thriving network of independent event spaces transformed from everyday locations such as living rooms, rooftops, boutiques, and museums into immersive venues for live performances. This platform brings people together to foster discovery, community, and connection through live music, facilitating memorable experiences that go beyond conventional concerts. The company is dedicated to supporting artists and creating spaces for authentic cultural engagement, driven by a team of passionate individuals knowledgeable in music and event production.
As a Freelance Local Producer at Sofar Sounds, you will play a pivotal role in growing the brand's presence in your local area by producing and promoting captivating live events. This position requires someone with deep insights into the local culture and neighborhoods, as well as strong community connections. The Freelance Local Producer functions as an entrepreneurial community builder and tastemaker, responsible for curating high-quality live shows that resonate with diverse audiences. You will be in charge of developing and executing audience-building strategies, utilizing your local networks including artists, venues, brands, and community partners to strengthen Sofar’s influence and deliver impactful pop-up events.
This role is entrepreneurial and best suited for self-driven individuals who thrive on initiative and ownership. Freelancers working in this capacity enjoy autonomy over their projects with flexible scheduling, typically conducting most activities during evenings and weekends when live events naturally thrive. While this is a commission-based partnership rather than a traditional employment role, you will receive support and resources from the central Sofar team including training programs, global networking opportunities, and marketing tools. You will be expected to proactively market events, creatively manage ticket sales, curate exceptional live experiences, and financially steward each event to ensure profitability.
The Freelance Local Producer not only fosters audience growth but also helps shape the cultural fabric of their city by collaborating with local organizations and growing strategic alliances that enhance reach and engagement. Candidates must be local to their designated area and possess an in-depth understanding of neighborhood dynamics and community preferences. This role is perfect for someone who loves music, culture, and the arts, and who is passionate about creating immersive, meaningful cultural experiences that bring people together and build lasting community bonds.
