The Deli Cook position at Seward Community Co-op Franklin Store is a full-time opportunity designed for individuals with a passion for cooking within a fast-paced, customer-service-oriented kitchen environment. This role reports directly to the Kitchen Supervisor and is positioned at Pay Level III in the union wage scale, offering competitive pay based on previous years of experience, ranging from $21.25 to $22.75 per hour. The primary purpose of this role is to ensure the preparation of quality deli foods that adhere strictly to established recipes and production schedules, contributing to the overall goals of the deli department.

As a Deli Cook, you will be responsible for precisely preparing all deli foods, maintaining efficiency while ensuring that recipes are followed to specification. Timeliness and quality of service at the hot bar are critical aspects of this role, which requires ongoing maintenance and organization to provide a pleasant customer experience. Additionally, the Deli Cook will be tasked with ensuring a clean and safe kitchen environment, using kitchen equipment properly, and assisting with the stocking and inventory of supplies. Collaboration is essential, as the role involves active communication with deli staff and coordinators, participation in meetings and trainings, and working alongside the Kitchen Shift Lead to optimize daily workflow.

This role not only demands excellent cooking skills but also a strong commitment to food safety, demonstrated through proper handwashing and adherence to safe food handling guidelines. Job Requirements

  • Ability to stand bend stoop reach squat and walk for extended periods of time per shift
  • Bend and lift loads not to exceed 50 pounds
  • Push and pull carts weighing up to 100 pounds
  • Repetitive use of hands for grasping pushing pulling and fine manipulation
  • Environmental exposure to extreme temperatures coolers ovens freezer outdoors etc
  • Ability to operate equipment such as rotisserie Robot Coupe food processor shrink wrap machine manual and/or electric scales recalibrate and read thermometers convection oven stove knives and commercial dishwasher
  • Ability to freely access all areas of the store including offices sales floor back stock areas and walk-in coolers and freezers
  • Ability to move or handle merchandise throughout the store generally weighing up to 50 pounds

Job Duties

  • Accurate preparation of all deli foods following recipes to specification
  • Ensure timely service of hot bar ongoing maintenance of the hot bar
  • Ensure work station and kitchen cleanliness
  • Ensure proper use of all kitchen equipment
  • Put away orders as needed
  • Create and document new recipes
  • Follow safe food handling guidelines
  • Wash hands routinely frequently and properly to ensure the safety of our products per Seward Co-op's Hand Washing Policy
  • Work with Kitchen Shift Lead to assist in the daily workflow
  • Participate in departmental and storewide meetings and trainings
  • Participate in departmental inventories and projects
  • Other tasks as assigned by Deli Manager/Kitchen Shift Lead
