Job Description
The hiring establishment is a school district that manages multiple school sites, focusing on providing quality meal services to students and staff. This organization recognizes the importance of nutritious meals in supporting student achievement and overall well-being, and it strives to maintain a high standard of food service across its campuses. The district is committed to fostering a positive work environment where employees can develop their skills while contributing to the community's health and education objectives.
As a Food Service Worker Floater, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that food service operations run smoothly across various school kitchens. This full-time position offers a unique and dynamic work environment, where no two days are the same. Your primary responsibility will be to assist different school sites by preparing and serving meals, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and supporting the food service team wherever needed. This flexibility means you will travel between multiple locations, adapting quickly to different team dynamics, kitchen equipment, and operational routines.
The Food Service Worker Floater is expected to be dependable, organized, and efficient, with a commitment to upholding health and safety standards at all times. You will help restock food lines, manage deliveries using first-in, first-out (FIFO) inventory practices, and contribute to a welcoming atmosphere by serving meals with a positive attitude. Your role supports the seamless delivery of nutritious meals that meet recipe requirements and production records while ensuring meal service areas, such as salad bars and milk boxes, are well maintained.
This position also entails performing routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, and removing trash to maintain sanitary conditions in the kitchen and dining areas. Effective communication with kitchen managers and team members is essential, as you will often take direction and adjust to new teams and environments. The fast-paced nature of the job requires a strong work ethic and the ability to manage varying responsibilities promptly and efficiently.
The role demands physical stamina, including the ability to stand for entire shifts, occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, and engage in frequent bending, reaching, walking, and hand usage. Candidates must possess reliable transportation and a willingness to travel between school sites during the workweek, typically Monday through Friday, with possible extended weeks.
Overall, the Food Service Worker Floater opportunity is ideal for individuals who are flexible, team-oriented, and motivated to contribute positively to the school community through their support of quality food service. This role not only provides valuable experience in food preparation and service but also fosters a sense of connection with diverse teams and community members in an educational setting.
